How many times have you really wanted to cook a great dinner for your family but before you know it, the day’s almost over, you know you have nothing in your fridge and the thought of the peak supermarket line makes you recoil with dread? If you’re like me, this happens way more frequently than I’d like to admit! You know your children (and partner!) are all too happy to have pizza yet again but you want to provide something more nutritious for your family. What’s a Brooklyn parent to do?
I recommend checking out What’s for Supp.
Fort Greene based What’s for Supp has recently launched to make it super easy to order in ingredients to cook a delicious dinner for you and your family with no need to plan ahead.
Here’s what you do. Visit WhatsforSupp.com and browse recipes from fantastic local chefs like Mark Henegan from Madiba; fabulous food bloggers like Phoebe Lapine from Feed Me Phoebe (and BBC’s Chef Race!) and more. You can browse the specially crafted Chef’s Menus or browse by main ingredient and visit the Farmer’s Market, Fish Market, Poultry Market or Butcher Shop. They’re constantly adding new recipes so you’ll always have great options to choose from but it’s not an overwhelming amount of choices like some other recipe sites.
You pick a recipe, add it to your cart, set a delivery time (as soon as two hours from time of order) and What’s for Supp will deliver all the right ingredients from a participating local grocery store (they are working with the phenomenal Garden of Eden so you know your ingredients will be as fresh as can be!). As an added bonus, you’ll soon be able to add a perfectly paired bottle of wine from local wine merchant Thirst.
Inspiration struck founder Adam Winski when he and his fiancé moved in together and began loving cooking together. However, at the end of a long workday the last thing they wanted to do was brave the supermarket line. “We could order in from countless restaurants but found ourselves in a rut of ordering from the same places or just cooking up pasta because that was what we had at home. We wished there was a way to quickly find a great recipe and then order in all the ingredients. When we couldn’t find anything like that, we decided to build it ourselves.” Adam says.
Right now What’s for Supp is delivering to 11201, 11205, 11215, 11216, 11217, 11231 and 11238 with plans to expand into Williamsburg and Greenpoint in the coming weeks.
Let us know what dishes you end up making! We’re super excited to try out the mustard rack of lamb with creamed spinach!!
And What’s for Supp also launched an open call for nominations for New York’s Top GourMom so visit GourMoms.com to nominate your mom now!
Nominations are open to anyone who currently resides in one of New York’s five boroughs or whose mom currently resides in one of the five boroughs. After submitting a recipe and a few bits of information (most importantly the answer to the question “Why is your mom New York’s Top GourMom?”), users will vote on their favorite GourMom with voting allowed once per day.
