NYC’s Largest Little League Parade this Weekend in Prospect Park

baseball parade

On Saturday, April 6, almost 2,000 Little League players will start the 2013 baseball season with their annual parade through Park Slope and into historic Prospect Park. The pint-sized players will be joined by their friends, families, local community leaders and elected officials. Everyone will then gather at the Prospect Park Bandshell for the ceremonial first pitch to start another great season of baseball and softball at the seven fields in Prospect Park’s Long Meadow and the six fields at the Parade Ground.

The Little League Parade gets underway at 10 a.m. The parade kicks-off at 7th Avenue and 2nd Street, proceeds along 7th Avenue to 9th Street and then turns up 9th Street to head into the Park and ends at the Bandshell. The Opening Day Ceremony and first pitch at the Bandshell will begin at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Opening Day is also the perfect time to take a ride on the Park’s historic 101 year-old Carousel. Or take part in amazing craft activities and our exciting Spring Sprouts Program at Lefferts Historic House or visit with the more than 80 species of wildlife at the Prospect Park Zoo.

Also on Saturday in the park, the new Pop-Up Audubon, will take place running from 12 p.m. through 5 p.m. “Pop-Up Audubon” is a new interactive activity through the Audubon Center that allows you to directly engage with nature through outdoor learning adventures. Using Prospect Park’s greatest resource- the Park itself- each month “Pop-Up Audubon” will be at different sites throughout the Park and feature educational programming about a different park ecosystem. It’s free! Just show up! In April, Pop-Up Audubon will be near the Binnen Bridge, close to the Boathouse.

Another anticipated event is the return of the highly successful Food Truck Rally at Grand Army Plaza on Sunday, April 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come taste the best of NYC’s food trucks every First and Third Sunday (except in May and September, check the calendar for details) from April until October.
