March to Save Long Island College Hospital on Sunday

LICH

SUNY Downstate is moving forward with its’ plans to close Long Island College Hospital (LICH) in Cobble Hill to convert its’ real estate valued at $500 to $800 million into cash to prop up the immense loses at SUNY Downstate.

According to the Cobble Hill Association, proposed closure of this hospital represents a grave danger for all the nearly 1 million people who live, work, shop, and play in Downtown Brooklyn but most especially for the residents of the surrounding communities who depend on Long Island College Hospital for critical emergency care. Going further to get to another hospital spells disaster or death for many stroke, cardiac and accident victims.

To help call attention to this danger, they are asking citizens to call Governor Cuomo today at 518-474-8390 or to send an email to Cuomo at: www.governor.ny.gov/contact/GovernorContactForm.php
Michelle Green of the New York State Nurses Association said closing LICH would harm Brooklyn patients, particularly residents of Red Hook, a neighborhood that relies solely on LICH for healthcare and is designated a “Health Professional Shortage Area” by the US Department of Health and Human Services. There is a March to Save LICH scheduled on Sunday, April 7 at 1:00 PM. Meet at Coffey Park near the Dwight and Verona Streets entrance, in Red Hook.
