The cultural events, festivals, and street fairs is what makes me love Spring. And weekends! This weekend is no different because they are full and plenty. FAB Fridays is back with a children’s concert featuring Jon Samson. The 2013 Sakura Matsuri will be taking place at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and it’s a great way to celebrate and learn about Japanese culture. Plus, the 5th Avenue Family Festival will be loads of fun for your entire clan and A Child Grows will be there! Come meet us! Also, this is the final weekend for Le Grand C at The New Victory Theater so plan your activities accordingly if you’d like to check it out. I’ve heard good things about Forces the Movical at Slam, and this is the final weekend to see it if you’re interested. Where are our animal lovers? Or parents of animal-loving children? 10th Annual FiddleFest at The Brooklyn School of Music and Theater (PROSPECT HEIGHTS)
Over 200 musicians from 26 New York public schools will converge in one place for the Noel Pointer Foundation’s 10th Annual Fiddlefest. Founded in 1995, the Noel Pointer Foundation (NPF) is a not-for-profit that dramatically enriches children’s lives by developing string music education programs for underserved communities throughout the New York metropolitan area. Since 1998, NPF’s In-School String Program, funded in part by the NYC Department of Education, has served over 17,500 Pre-K through 12 grade public school students. Fiddlefest is a rare opportunity for all of the students served by NPF to come together, mingle, and most importantly play music for each other & with their professional Teaching Artists. These young musicians will present everything from folk (exp. “Blueberry Jam” by Bonnie Greene) to classical music (exp. “Perpetual Motion” by Suzuki). NPF Teaching Artists, as the New Legacy String Ensemble, will give a special performance of the late Noel Pointer’s “Night Song”.

“Uptown” featuring Renee Robinson and The Alvin Ailey School (Symphony Space)
Harlem comes alive in dance and song in a special Just Kidding Sunday at Symphony Space. The New York City 19th Century Extravaganza is a three-day expo of historically-oriented events, demonstrations, and performances, all of which highlight aspects of nineteenth-century life in America, with a focus on New York City. My son and I had the pleasure of seeing this show and we thought it was glorious! It’s a show filled with love and laughter and lessons learned. You’ve seen how your kids react to bubbles.
