On May 4th, PS 295 will host Brooklyn’s third annual Touch-A-Truck street fair. At this exciting family event, kids will have a chance to climb inside and explore some of the working trucks and vehicles they see in everyday life. Food trucks, crafts, bouncy houses and music round out the day.
We went last year and it was fantastic! My advice is to get there early as it was crowded. We weren’t able to get to all of the trucks we wanted to because the lines were too long but it was manageable and a great community event!
PS 295 Touch-A-Truck Brooklyn will take place on Saturday, May 4, between 12 P.M. and 5 P.M., rain or shine, and tickets are $5 per person (no charge for infants under six months). The fair will run the length of 18th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, next to PS 295, which lies at the intersection of Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, and Sunset Park.
Named “Best PTA Event” by The New York Observer, Touch-A-Truck Brooklyn is a fundraiser for PS 295, helping the school fill the gap left by budget cuts and provide the best possible education for its students. Proceeds from the last two years—totaling $54,000—have funded a part-time teacher to help reduce class sizes in the fourth and fifth grades. Several local businesses have already shown their support for the local elementary school by signing on as event sponsors, including Fairway, Greschler’s, Target, Fresh Direct, Union Market, Checklist Home Services, Park Slope Plumbing, Paul’s Signs, Rolling Press, Sidecar Restaurant, Southside Coffee, Sunshine Transportation, Dr. Mindy Pediatric Dentistry, and Greenwood Park Beer Garden.
As we enter year three of this must-attend Brooklyn institution, Touch-A-Truck Brooklyn 2013 will be bigger and better than ever: more trucks, longer hours, shorter lines, and even more great food. Over 25 vehicles are scheduled to take part in the event, along with their drivers/operators, who will be on hand to explain how these automobiles work and what purpose they serve in the community. Highlights include:
