There is a new art gallery in Park Slope! It is a cute little space right off of 5th Ave on 5th Street called Ground Floor Gallery. The cool thing about the exhibits is it is an intimate, accessible and family-friendly environment where you can learn about original art without breaking the bank.
I spoke with the founders about how they are able to keep the sticker price low and they said “We start by working with artists who do not have commercial representation. They are underrepresented so the price of the work is not prohibitive just yet. We then select work from their studios which we deem appropriate for our space and audience and work closely with each artist to determine specific pricing for each piece in the show. We also see a lot of art and are always aware of how other galleries and artists are pricing comparable work. Context is key!”
The Ground Floor Gallery has their June opening reception this Friday June 7th at 6pm.
Here is more info on them:
“G-Train Salon” curators, Jill Benson and Krista Saunders have teamed up once again to open Ground Floor Gallery, Park Slope’s newest art destination. The gallery connects emerging artists to residents of Brooklyn, and beyond, through curated exhibitions of original art work that everyday New Yorkers can afford. We seek to empower the general public by educating them about contemporary art practice, hosting artist salons and other events, and encouraging interaction between local residents and the artists-in-residence throughout the exhibition season.
