<please note this post is from 2013 and may be outdated>

Home Run Baseball Camp has returned to Brooklyn again this year!  Now in their 3rd year at the Parade Grounds in Prospect Park, both beginners and experienced ball players are welcome and will be challenged and encouraged. The camp’s objective is to provide a safe, fun and instructive environment for your children this summer! They welcome both boys and girls ages 4-12 to attend and runs 12 Weeks from June 10 thru August 30. Families can pick their weeks they want to attend or even do drop-in days.

Their staff, comprised mostly of camp alums, makes sure every player age 4 to 12 gets at least 100 swings in batting practice per day. Their top priority: Safety.

They want every player working on volume repetition- which simply means teach the skill then get round after round of ground balls, fly balls or batting practice. In a typical day, campers can expect a minimum of 75 to 100 ground balls and fly balls. Most camps over teach and under volume. Their approach takes more coaches and equipment, but they feel its the best way.

They feature two games per day and group by age not ability. This develops peer leaders and allows for baseball and social growth with teammates the same age.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

  • We are happy to have Jesus ‘Pepe’ Frias, a nine-year retired Major Leaguer, as our special guest instructor all summer. A natural motivator and highly popular coach, Pepe has worked closely with Coach Mac in both the U.S. and his native Dominican Republic.
  • Campers ages 4, 5 and 6 hit off live underhand pitching , not tee ball.
  • Campers move around on defense during the day.
  • Full pitching bullpens all day for any camper who wants to polish his technique and learn new skills.
  • Batting station with both live and machine batting practice. Overseen by college players, campers can spend as much time hitting as they like during camp.
  • We ask our 11 and 12 year old campers to fan out to the groups and help coach the younger campers for the first hour of camp.

Read some testimonials from A Child Grows parents:

Our 2 weeks ended up becoming 4!  Homerun Baseball is that good. It’s not just about baseball, but about teamwork, collaboration, life lessons…Coach Mac has designed something that is truly outstanding – great coaches, a fun, supportive environment that challenges the intellect as well as physical skills. My son absolutely loved this camp, and can’t wait to go back next summer. – Hyo

My boys, ages 8 and 6, were signed up for three weeks, but ended up with five. In  addition to excellent baseball instruction, the real beauty of this camp is how it makes the kids feel about themselves. The coaches know everyone’s name, and do their best to make sure the campers know their teammates’ names too. The kids get tons of turns at bat and in the field, and lots of life lessons along the way — all in a safe and fun atmosphere. –  Sha

Our sons enjoyed camp – so much that they extended by 2 weeks!  My husband and I also felt that the coaches were great – not just baseball-wise, but also keeping the kids safe (we were there during the 90-100 degree weeks), plus fostering a love of the game and a wonderful sense of sportsmanship.  It was a great experience for all of us….we look forward to next year! – Becky F.

My extremely baseball-obsessed-just-turned-9 years-old son …..really loved it–from the very first day. The coaches seemed great and very enthusiastic–and in addition to playing (I believe 2 games a day), the kids worked on game skills, and reading was very strongly encouraged. My son loved playing, of course, but also competing for baseball cards by answering baseball trivia questions. He came home totally exhausted but happy. I plan to sign him up for another week in late August. – Yael
