Glasses for kids can be a difficult matter. On the one hand, kids can often be forgetful and careless, so they might lose or break them. On the other hand, kids can be pretty stubborn, and may even refuse to wear glasses in the first place. With these simple tips, however, you can get your child to do the right thing and keep their glasses on.
1. No nagging. If you keep telling your child they need to wear their eyeglasses, they will soon consider it a chore. Try to make it fun for them, so instead of explaining how good they are for their health (boooring! no child thinks long term), make out a nice story around the frames. Superheroes welcome.
2. Pick a comfortable style. Make sure the child’s glasses fit just right, not too tight, not too loose. Since children’s nose bridge isn’t fully developed yet, adjustable nose pads are ideal. Glasses should be light, so acetate is preferred over metal in terms of materials.
3. Let them pick the design. There are many options available for kids these days. Glasses can be customized with Disney characters, plus most kids frames come in a wide color range. If the child picks his/her favorite design, they will be more likely to actually wear them.
4. Hang them to a chain. This prevents the glasses from being misplaced. Moreover, since they’re already hanging around the neck, your child will be more likely to put them on again.
5. Set a good example. If you’re an eyeglasses wearer yourself, your kid will be more accustomed to the idea. Seeing you wear your frames often will lead to them trying to imitate your actions. If you take good care of your glasses, your child will probably do the same.
