Hope you are having a great weekend! Last week was the first taste of crisp air when we stepped out in the morning for school! Time to break out the long sleeve shirts and warmer clothes!
Hopefully everyone has Columbus Day off so you can head out and enjoy the day with the children. I have re-listed events for Monday again as a reminder below.
Also going on this week we have Open Hours at Hallet Nature Sanctuary in Central Park this month on Tuesdays and a free Theatre Arts Japan Kids performance of Stomp, Clap, Make Bangs! Columbus Day Monday October 14th
Amazing Maize Maze at Queens County Farm Museum
Monday, October 14th 11 am – 4:30 pm (last ticket is sold at 4:30 pm) and weekends until October 27th
Amazing Maize Maze: $9 adults, $5 kids age 4 to 11, free for kids age 3 and under. Hayride: $2.
Enjoy getting lost in our 3 acre interactive corn maze. The adventure begins with a Stalk Talk to prepare you for the challenge of finding clues, solving puzzles and making your way out of the maze.
Boo at the Zoo: Dragons and Dinosaurs at the Bronx Zoo
Monday Oct 14th & weekends until Nov 3rd 10a-5p. Boo at the Zoo is free with zoo admission; Dinosaur Safari (10am–5pm) and the Museum of UnNatural Mysteries (11am–5pm) require the purchase of a Total Experience ticket.
The kids can venture through the Museum of UnNatural Mysteries; catch a magic show or Beasts of the Magical World, a musical theater performance; take in live music from Gigi and the Lend Me a Hand Band; explore a hay maze; learn about all kinds of no-longer-extant creatures at the extinct-animal graveyard; check out demonstrations by professional pumpkin carvers; and, of course, rock their outfits in a Halloween procession (12n, 2pm) and then embark on a trip back in time as you ride our Dinosaur Safari!

New York City’s 69th Annual Columbus Day Parade
Monday October 14, 2013 from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Fifth Ave., 44th to 72nd Streets. Free. For all ages.

2nd Annual Fort Greene Track & Field Day at Commodore Barry Park
Monday Oct 14th 12n-4p. Free. For children 5-14y.
Participation in Fort Greene Track & Field Day is free and will take place on Monday, Oct. 14 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Commodore Barry Park at Flushing Avenue and Navy Street. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. For more information or to RSVP, contact Michael Randazzo at michael@youngrocksoccer.us.
Co-sponsored by the Young Rock Soccer Academy and Turf the Slab, this year’s event will be at Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene. The Track & Field Day will feature sports and activities for kids aged 5 to 14. Athletes from LIU Brooklyn and the Pratt Institute will be on hand to lead healthy exercises and games. Volunteers from the NYPD 88th Precinct will also be leading activities throughout the day.

Stomp, Clap and Make Bangs!”-a playable play for babies, is a pop up interactive theater performance for babies and toddlers 0-3 years old, introducing Japanese visuals, sounds, songs, stories and eurhythmics in various locations in New York City.
About Theatre Arts Japan -KIDS Theatre Arts Japan – KIDS is a part of Theatre Arts Japan; New York based not for profit organization producing and promoting Japan related theater arts. Theatre Arts Japan-KIDS was founded to introduce Japanese theater, culture, point of view and literature to American Children as well Children with Japanese heritage who unless have no or limited access to Japanese Theater productions for children. Limit 30 children First come first serve, tickets are available on the day of the event at the library.

Normally closed to visitors except on guided tours, come meander at your own pace along the rustic trail and see how the Conservancy is turning this once-weed-filled promontory into a native woodland garden for birds and other wildlife. The wood chipped trail is uneven; please wear appropriate
shoes. Please, no groups, dogs, bikes or strollers; capacity is limited. Guided tours also offered. (Inside the Park from East 60th to 62nd Street, south of Wollman Rink)
Yoga with Toddler at Dou Yoga (Clinton Hill)
Tuesday 330-415p. Family drop in $30.60 (or family 10 pack for $261 – 10 child + 10 adult). This 45 minute class is appropriate for 2-4 years of age accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Get the wiggles and giggles out while also learning how to be calm and relaxed. Children and their parents or caregivers develop stronger bonds through practicing yoga together and engaging in imaginative play, creative exploration, cooperative games, songs, and stories. In this engaging and fun environment kids begin to develop body-awareness, coordination, strength, flexibility, self-control, and compassion. The Haunted Pumpkin Garden at The New York Botanical Garden (Bronx)
Now until October 31st The Garden is open year-round, Tuesday – Sunday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The Haunted Pumpkin Garden is Back and Spookier than Ever!
Experience the thrills and chills of the season with a garden full of intricately carved pumpkin sculptures, bugs, bats, parades, and more. New this year, the Haunted Pumpkin Garden features creepy creature encounters every weekend and the largest Spooky Nighttime Adventures trail ever! On October 19–20, watch master carver Ray Villafane of Food Network fame transform humongous pumpkins into unearthly creatures. It’s so much fun, it’s scary!
Pumpkin sculptures of spooky scarecrows, frightening spiders, sneaky snakes, and more await discovery at every turn in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden. The display includes more than 500 intricately carved pumpkins that are sure to capture your youngster’s imagination. Every day kids can play inside a “gourd-geous” Pumpkin House, put on a scary show at the Pumpkin Puppet Theater, look for wiggly worms under a rotting log, and join a Halloween Parade, while every weekend offers even more treats.

Fall hours for Prospect Park Carousel in Prospect Park
Now until October 27th. Thursday-Sunday & holidays: 12 – 5p. $2.00 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets, for all ages. Located in the Park’s “Children’s Corner,” the Carousel features 53 magnificently carved horses, a lion, a giraffe, a deer, and two dragon-pulled chariots. Carved in 1912 by Charles Carmel, one of the foremost carousel designers of the time, and restored by the Prospect Park Alliance in 1990, the Carousel promises that classic summertime amusement will be available for generations of fun. In addition, the Prospect Park Carousel is one of the few in the world that is wheelchair accessible. While at the Carousel grab an ice cream, popcorn or cold beverage from the Pony Express Snack Bar.
