Find and Seek: What You're Doing Today

There are lots of events happening this weekend, which have been conveniently listed for you on this very blog. But occasionally even the most motivated of us find sifting through all those events overwhelming. And maybe you and your progeny are searching for something to do TODAY. Well, I have the day perfect Friday planned for you. Start your morning by hopping on the 61 (if you’re coming from the Slope) or take the F to Carroll and stroll over to the Red Hook Public Library where Find and Seek, a creative enrichment program for kids, is hosting two ongoing events. At 10:30 there is Story Play, for ages 0-5.  Or hit Materials Lab at 12, for ages 3-5, where they focus on natural materials, you know sourced from the earth and stuff. This is more than your basic story or art hour. This is a a much more inclusive, interactive approach to sharing literature and making art. Then take your self, I guess your kid can come too, out to lunch at Fort Defiance. Their devilled eggs will keep most kids happy. And go ahead have a drink with lunch, it’s Friday after all.

Here’s a bit more info from Find and Seek:

Story Play—We focus on books, but we also bring into the mix our own special hybrid approach of story telling, facilitated play and materials exploration. We tell stories in the round. We invite children to act out a story with props made of found, repurposed and natural materials. We foster children’s imaginative use of props in their play, and we facilitate healthy play relationships with old and new friends.

Materials Lab—Children explore a wide and beautiful range of natural and recycled materials in an open-ended way, and collaborate with other children and arts education professionals on a series of meaningful art and story projects.
