We have another fun week ahead of us! The NYC public schools are closed on Tuesday November 5th for Election day! The Brooklyn Children’s Museum and the NY Transit Museum both have events for children off from school. Also The annual Canstruction competition is going on now all week and is free! We also have free admission during weekday hours now that it is November at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden!
We also have events for adults on the calendar. We have a Elimination Communication workshop at Caribou Baby, a Psychology Testing and Autism Spectrum Disorders workshop and also a Parents of Children with Special Needs workshop.
Our calendar has a listing of storytimes like the Suzi Shelton Park Slope library Musical Storytime and like art but don’t like the mess? Then try the Drop in Messy Art class at Color Bklyn! Check out the calendar for all the drop in classes & events this week!

CANSTRUCTION: 21ST ANNUAL NYC COMPETITION at Brookfield Place (Battery Park)
Now until Wednesday November 13, 2013 10am – 6pm (Nov. 13 close at 5pm) Free!
Canstruction® is an extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world. Teams of architects, engineers, contractors, and the students they mentor will compete to build large-scale structures made entirely out of unopened cans of food. The whimsical, wacky, and truly unique sculptures are then on view to the public until they are dismantled and donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Admission is free, but visitors are asked to bring a can of high quality food to the exhibition’s collection station in an attempt to surpass the record 91,000 pounds of food donated following the 20th Annual Competition. STORYTIME WITH THE AUTHOR is a weekly storytime designed to connect young readers and listeners directly to the authors and artists who create the books they love. Diaper Free In NYC: Elimination Communication Meetup at Caribou Baby (Greenpoint/Williamsburg)
Wednesday November 6th 10:15-12PM. (meet first Wednesday of the month) Free.
Elimination Communication (EC) is practiced in several countries and is based on the principal that babies can give and receive cues about going potty. Do you practice EC? Would you like to learn more? Come join other newbies and experienced EC’ers at Caribou Baby! Moms, dads and caregivers are welcome with or without babies.
The meetup begins with an information session lasting about 30 minutes which covers the basics of EC. This will be followed by an informal discussion where people can share their experiences, ask questions and connect with others practicing EC. Please bring your own potty (if you’d like) and a towel or blanket to catch any spills. There will also be access to a restroom which has a standard toilet and a toddler potty.

City Stomp Live at Dizzy’s on Fifth (Park Slope)
Wednesday November 6th. First seating at 5:00 (show at 5:45), second seating at 6:30 (show at 6:45). City Stomp Live has shows at Dizzy’s Fifth Avenue. It’s time to celebrate the Festival of Lights! Diwali is an Indian holiday, and its name comes from all the lamps, candles, fires, and fireworks lit to symbolize good over evil. Come learn about this holiday as we make colorful patterns from sand and light some candles to celebrate.
Drop-In Messy Art & Music Combo with Sunshine Baby & Kids at Color Bklyn (Prospect Heights)

A super creative Music and Messy Art combo class, with energetic music and movement, followed by cool hands-on creative art exploration! Aprons provided, and don’t worry, the “mess” is contained and manageable
Psychology Testing and Autism Spectrum Disorders Workshop at the Child Study Center (Midtown)
Thursday, November 7, 2013. All workshops are free, open to the public and will be held on Thursdays at 6:30 pm at our conveniently located Manhattan office at One Park Ave, 7th floor. Registration is required.
We will address what psychology testing is, how to determine whether your child needs this type of assessment, what important questions to ask when choosing an evaluator and how to interpret and use the results to help your child. Presenter: Dana Levy, PsyD

Fall Fun at Brooklyn Crab! (Red Hook)
Everyday – 11am until Sundown. Admission to pumpkin “patch”/golf course: FREE Golf $4/$5. Pumpkins – prices vary.
Our beautiful backyard is festooned with pumpkins and even some ghouls. Kids can roam the course, play some holes, and even pick a pumpkin from our “patch” (any of the pumpkins on BKC premise, price based on size). We will give out a free crab-carving stencil with all pumpkin purchases.

Free with Museum admission but storytime is limited to 40 people on a first-come, first-served basis. Recommended admission: Adults $25, Seniors (65+) $17, children under 12 free (with adult).
Open Play at The Learning Garden (Prospect Heights)
M-F 11-6p. Daily Pass $12. (a variety of play passes also available see website fore more information). Our popular Open Play program is a time that offers a social learning environment for your children (ages 0-4y) to grow and learn through creative play. With our space changing and growing every week, your little explorer will have lots to discover. Materials and activities are provided to engage you and your child while sparking their imagination.
