Another week has flown by and hope everyone is used to the time change! The dark evenings are coming!
We have another fun weekend ahead of us and it is also a holiday weekend! Monday the 11th is Veteran’s Day so NYC public schools are closed! Since there is a holiday we have some extra fun events going on!
You can start the weekend at BLDG 92’s Celebrate Veteran’s Day or go check out The Very Hungry Caterpillar And Other Eric Carle Favourites at the NYU Skirball Center. In addition to the Veteran’s Day Parade on Monday we also have the grand re-opening of the Queens Museum which has a special family day on the 11th! If you are looking for some music or magic this weekend we have the Dirty Sock Funtime Band Album Release, the Hip Tot Music Fest with Rolie Polie Guacamole and the Dikki’s Wacky Magic Show, by Circus to Go at Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch.
Remember Brooklyn Public Libraries are closed on November 11th but good news places that are usually closed are open like the Brooklyn Children’s Museum and the Children’s Museum of the Arts has special member hours on the 11th!

‘One, Two, Tres!’ is a bilingual (Spanish/ English) puppet show created for babies and children, up to 4 years old. Children become immersed in a magical world of puppetry, which focuses on visual, auditory and verbal stimuli and provides a wonderful bonding experience between parents and children. Each act has repetitive actions and simple musical rhythms, which babies can focus on and enjoy, and toddlers will be totally entertained in a creative, stimulating environment. The performance is specifically designed to run 25 minutes to cater to infant’s and toddler’s limited attention span.
CHILD’SPACE NYC Pre-Crawler II at Gumbo (Boerum Hill)

Child’Space Method class for pre-crawling babies from 5 weeks and up. In this gentle, joyful class, parents learn techniques of touch and movement to support rolling, reaching, including how to help babies become completely comfortable in tummy-time. These and many other movements are the building blocks for sitting, crawling and walking. Parents learn answers to their questions about their baby’s development and also notice other positive changes in their babies after learning Child’Space Method, such as reduction of colic, improved ability to self-soothe, improved sleep and easier feeding. Registration includes “Songs for Child’Space”, Dan’s original CD of songs used in class. Please bring a receiving blanket and favorite toy to class. Choose either pre-crawlers I or pre-crawlers II depending on your baby’s age as of the first day of class.

Big Red Chair Family Series favorite, The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia (Goodnight Moon, Guess How Much I Love You?) returns to bring back the cherished children’s stories about self-discovery and embracing your own uniqueness.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favourites transforms award winning children’s book author/illustrator Eric Carle’s charmingly collaged tissue paper illustrations into equally engaging magical puppets. Follow The Very Hungry Caterpillar as he progresses through an amazing variety of foods towards his eventual metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly.
PRE-SHOW: Join us one hour prior to each performance for an arts and crafts educational activity. We will learn about a butterfly’s lifecycle and create wall-hanging decorations!
POST-SHOW: Stay for a Q&A with Company members immediately following the conclusion of each performance.
Dikki’s Wacky Magic Show, by Circus to Go at Brooklyn Public LIbrary Central Branch (Prospect Heights)

A combination of new and old magic for all ages. Through audience participation, surprises and fun, Dikki makes the impossible become believable. See a member of the audience levitate in mid-air, watch while Dikki throws a ball of sparkling fire from each hand and experience a snowstorm right before your very eyes. There’s lots of magic, music and mayhem! This show packs small but plays big!
Celebrate Veteran’s Day at BLDG 92 (Navy Yard)
Join us Saturday, 11/9 for a full day of celebration, commemoration and family fun. BLDG 92 is also open Sun and Mon of Veteran’s Day Weekend from 12-6PM
Veteran’s Day is a special day at the Brooklyn Navy Yard: we celebrate the service of all US military veterans as well as the 2-year anniversary of the opening of BLDG 92. This year we are excited to unveil our Tribute Wall, which honors the work and service of former and current Yard workers and members of the US Navy or US Marine Corps. HIP TOT MUSIC FEST will fill Shapeshifter Lab with the sound of good eats on Sunday, November 10th. Park Slope faves, Rolie Polie Guacamole, will be serving up some great tunes with their signature songs about delicious eats. Melanie Hope Greenberg will whet your appetite with her classic NY story, “Supermarket”. There will be FREE crafts and face painting from KidVentrues NYC and get plenty of swag from Brooklyn’s own car sharing company Carpingo. Oh and you have to try a famous Shapeshifter cheese panini!
PUPPET TAKE OVER: Blown Away By Poetry at Urban Stages (Midtown West)

After Wendy Windstorm sneezes the poems out of Poetsville, she must embark on a journey to recover the town’s lost verses. Along the way she learns abut rhyme, alliteration, and description from a series of helpful puppet poets. For the grand finale, young people in the audience write their own original poems, which they are then invited to perform onstage. Blown Away returns to Urban Stages after touring to BAM and Poets House last spring!
Animal Hop! A Dance and Book Party To Benefit Sean Casey Animal Rescue at Littlefield (Gowanus)
Sunday Nov 10th 2-4p. Doors open at 130p. This event is all ages. Kids 2 years old and under get in free.
Dancing! Books! Authors! Contests! Prizes! Games! Crafts! The ANIMAL HOP is an event for kids: part dance party, part book party, but 100% devoted to helping animals. The money raised at the Animal Hop will go to Sean Casey Animal Rescue, a non-profit, no kill shelter who specializes in the rescue, rehabilitation and finding new homes for dogs, cats, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and small mammals. Come meet some of your favorite children’s book authors, dance to LIVE music of the La-La-Llamas, buy an animal themed book or two provided by local independent bookstore WORD, and help out animals in need. Authors include: Colleen AF Venable and Stephanie Yue, Nick Bruel, Michelle Knudsen, and Peter Brown.
BONUS: The first 50 families in the door get a free copy of GOING, GOING DRAGON, the finale of the Eisner nominated kid’s graphic novel series GUINEA PIG PET SHOP PRIVATE EYE.
Dirty Sock Funtime Band Album Release at DROM (East Village)

The Dirty Socks Come Clean is the first new album from The Dirty Sock Funtime Band in three years, and “New” will be the name of the game at this show, with lots of never-before-played songs from The Dirty Socks Come Clean, new dances led by dancer supreme Annie Elmer, and new comic bits from The Dirty Sock Funtime Band’s beloved, chartreuse-wigged “Mr. Clown” (Adam Jacobs).

Monday November 11th – Veteran’s Day
94th Annual NYC Veterans Day Parade

More than 27,000 veterans, active duty military personnel and marching band members head up Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue in the 94th annual Veterans Day Parade, Monday, November 11, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Parade goes from 26th Street to 53rd Street.
The Veterans Day Parade marks the start of the Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive and spectators are urged to bring toys, which will be collected along the parade route.
This year’s parade is dedicated to Women in Service, with Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody, U.S. Army (ret.), the first woman to achieve four-star rank in any U.S. Military service, as Grand Marshal. Former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony Principi, Vice President of the Wounded Warriors Project Board of Directors, is Honorary Grand Marshal.

Canstruction® is an extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world. Teams of architects, engineers, contractors, and the students they mentor will compete to build large-scale structures made entirely out of unopened cans of food. The whimsical, wacky, and truly unique sculptures are then on view to the public until they are dismantled and donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Admission is free, but visitors are asked to bring a can of high quality food to the exhibition’s collection station in an attempt to surpass the record 91,000 pounds of food donated following the 20th Annual Competition.
