The Fun Time Mandarin program introduces babies, toddlers and young children to the musical joy of the Chinese language using a playful inquiry-based, story-centered approach. Megan Shank, a journalist, teacher and Chinese translator, has curated a wealth of Chinese-language resources including colorful picture books, award-winning textbooks and enchanting children’s poems and supplemented this material with original chants, ditties and activities to create the Fun Time Mandarin series. Students will sing silly songs, play simple games and delight in whimsical dialogue. In doing so, they will learn the phonetics of Putonghua, as well as basic vocabulary through a spiral-up approach that builds on each lesson. As a nonnative Mandarin speaker, Shank appreciates what it takes to achieve ease and fluency with Chinese as a second language and strives to make every class engaging, intuitive and relevant for her students.
