Fall is arriving this week!  Love the cooler weather and we have lots of indoor activities for the little ones on the calendar!

Try a free demo of Yo Re Mi: Musical Yoga Adventures at SuperFrench Studio or check out the Play Group at The Stomping Ground!  More fun things for the little kids are the Stroller Tour at the Guggenheim Museum, Toddler Tuesdays at Lakeside in Prospect Park, Toddler Yoga at Dou Yoga and Mondays with Rob at Stocked!

Also happening this week for big kids we have Sing-a-Long with Lavender Blues Big Kids at Play Kids, Kids Construction Zone at the High Line and Science Club: Building with the circuits littleBits at Brooklyn Public Library Carrol Gardens branch.

Rob is a musician in many bands and loves getting engaged with music, he and his guitar are guaranteed to get kids moving!  If it is nice out they do the sing-a-long in the back garden!

Kids Construction Zone at the High Line (Union Square)
Monday Sept 22nd 330-5p (and Friday Sept 26th) Free.  14th Street Passage.
Drop in on Monday and Friday for super building sessions with the nuts, bolts, wheels, and pulleys of the Children’s Workyard Kit. Build life-sized structures you can climb in, play under, or drive.

Movie for Kids: Pete’s Dragon at Brooklyn Public Library (Bay Ridge)
Monday, September 22nd 330p–5p.  Free.  Rated G. 88 minutes.
A classic Disney musical, starring Mickey Rooney, Helen Reddy, and a large cartoon dragon. When Pete, an orphan, and his best friend Elliott–an invisible green dragon–wander into the seaside town of Passamaquoddy, the townspeople think he’s behind a slew of hilarious mishaps. But after a daring rescue, they change their tune and believe in Pete’s fire-breathing buddy.

Labor Day In Prospect Park
Mon Sep 1st 12n-6p.  Free.  Celebrate Labor Day in Prospect Park. Learn what it takes to become a naturalist! In addition to enjoying the Audubon’s exhibits and animal displays, take part in the Blooming Naturalist at 1p, Nature on the Go at 2p and Animal Encounter at 3p at the Audubon Center!  Also happening Lefferts Historic House: Race Around the Farm Yard 2-4p ($3 suggested admission) Enjoy potato sack races, spoon races, stilts and other old-fashioned family fun and Prospect Park Carousel from 12n–6p.  ($2 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets). Enjoy a ride on the historic 1912 Carousel, which features 51 magnificently carved horses, a lion, a giraffe, a deer and two dragon-pulled chariots.   See the website for more details.

Pop Up Pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Mon Sep 1st 10a-6p for 45 minute sessions.  Last Day for all NYC pools!  Free.
A great way to beat the summer heat, the pool is 30- by 50 feet in size, and maxes out at an easy 3.5 feet deep—making it just right for families with smaller kids, too. Swimmers of all ages and levels are welcome to enter daily from 10 am to 6 pm for 45-minute sessions starting June 27. After your dip in the pool, you can relax in a lounge chair on the adjacent sandy beach. The Beach and Lizzmonade Brooklyn are open from 10 am to 11 pm. Lizzmonade Brooklyn serves fresh, artisanal lemonades that are made to order, and offers light, pool-side fare for kids and adults. After 6pm, fresh fruit sangrias, craft beer, and wine are on tap.

Back to School Bash 2014 at Habana Outpost (Fort Greene)

Bring the kids out for one last day of summer fun at Fort Greene’s favorite family eco-eatery! This year, there will be free glitter tattoos, stilt walkers, arts & crafts and much, much more!

West Indian American Day Carnival Parade

Come experience the crown jewel of NY Caribbean Carnival week featuring costume bands, masqueraders, moko jumbies, floats, delicious Caribbean cuisine and much more.

Tuesday September 23rd

Toddler Tuesdays at Lakeside in Prospect Park
Tuesdays 930a-12n now until October 7th.  $15 for one child & one accompanying adult.  Book for dates in advance for $12 each!
Start your toddler’s day on Tuesday with an action-packed morning of instructor-led games, music, play-based activities, snacks, beverages, and open skate time. Designed for children ages 2–5 and their caregivers.  Session includes: 60 minutes of instructor led activities, open skate time, toddler skate rentals, helmet and pad pack combo (elbow, knee, wrist), small bag check, snacks, juice box.  Adult skate rental is available for an additional $6.  To register in advance call (718) 462-0010 or email groups@lakesidebrooklyn.com. Stroller Tour at the Guggenheim Museum (UES)
Tue Sept 23rd 3-4p.  $20 per family (includes museum admission), free for Family and Kids Club Members.  Single strollers and front baby carriers only.  Registration required.  Register here.  Stroll around the ramps with your baby in tow as museum educators lead an engaging one-hour tour for caregivers and their babies. Expect touchable objects and great adult conversations.

Toddler Yoga at Dou Yoga (Clinton Hill)
Tuesday 4-445p.  For kids 2-4 years of age.  Family drop in $30.60 (or family 10 pack for $261 – 10 child + 10 adult).  ​
Get the wiggles and giggles out while also learning how to be calm and relaxed. Children and their parents or caregivers develop stronger bonds through practicing yoga together and engaging in imaginative play, creative exploration, cooperative games, songs, and stories. In this engaging and fun environment kids begin to develop body-awareness, coordination, strength, flexibility, self-control, and compassion. Adults reap the benefits of having space to move, play, and deeply relax.​

Wednesday September 24th

Play Group at The Stomping Ground (Crown Heights)
Wednesdays 10a.  $5 for non member.  Free for members.
This weekly play group is facilitated by parents and includes fun, familiar songs and unstructured free play in The Stomping Ground’s colorful, active space. Play group provides an opportunity for families to get to know each other while their children play. The group includes parent led songs and stories during circle time at the beginning and end of the group.  Bring a change of clothes if you want to play in our outdoor water stations! *We are looking for a member to volunteer to lead a play group for ages 0-9 months. Breastfeeding Support Group with with Certified Lactation Counselor, Joanna Cascione.  Successful breastfeeding is often dependent on the support of others.  Join our breastfeeding circle where you’ll gain that support and learn from the knowledge and experience of fellow nursing mothers.  As moms who have breastfed their own children, Mollie and Bethany know firsthand that while breastfeeding is a normal and natural relationship between mother and child, it can sometimes come with unexpected challenges.  Together we’ll explore these challenges as well as the joys of breastfeeding.

Science Club: Building with the circuits littleBits at Brooklyn Public Library (Carroll Gardens)
Thu Sept 25th (also Oct 2nd & 16th) at 415-5p.  For ages 7 & up.   All children must be willing to work in a team.  Free.
littleBits are tiny circuit-boards with specific functions engineered to snap together with magnets. No soldering, no wiring, no programming, just snap together for phototyping, learning and fun. Each bits has a specific function(light, sound, sensors, buttons, threshold, pulse, motor, etc. ), and modules snap to make larger circuit.  Just as Lego™ allows you to create complex structures with little engineering knowledge, littleBits are small, simple, simple, intuitive, blocks that make creating with sophisticated electronics a matter of snapping small magnets together.

Lavender Blues NOW has an advanced class for our older kids (4-6 year olds). A 45 minute drop in & drop off class filled with singing, playing, dancing, and fun.

Sensory Room Family Hours at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Tuesdays, Thursdays 3-445p & Saturdays & Sundays 2-445p. For all ages.  Included in the price of admission.
Over, under, swing, and rock as you explore our newest space at BCM. Unlock doors on our Sensory Snake or relax and read on our fluff chair mountain This is an inclusive space that engages children of all abilities. This room provides a welcoming environment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Space is limited; availability on first come, first served basis.

Summer Hours at Jane’s Carousel (DUMBO)
Now until September 28th.  Open 6 days a week (closed Tuesdays) 11a-7p.  Tickets are $2.
Children age 3 and younger and those under 42” tall may ride free if accompanied by a paying adult.  Multiple Ticket Discount:  12 Tickets – $20.00

Playtimes at Norman & Jules (Park Slope)
M-Sun various times see website for all the details.  $12/first child, additional child $6.  Package 10 for $108.  Our backyard is intended for ages 6m to 6y.  We do not offer drop-offs.  Caregivers must be with their children at all times.

Art in the Park in Madison Square Park (Flatiron)
Tue-Sat 10a & 2p until October 17th.  Free.
You can find Annie in the Police Officer Moira Ann Smith Playground, presenting fun and creative art activities.  All Mad. Sq. Kids activities are free and open to the public! Drop by the playground and say hi to Annie.  See the website for the art activity of the day.

Preschool Play at Wagner Park (Battery Park City)
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, now until Oct 29th, 2014 10am-12noon.  Free.
Join other toddlers, parents and caregivers for interactive play on a grassy lawn. Toys, books, and play equipment provided.  No sessions 10/14.   Location just north of Historic Battery Park, off Battery Place.

Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs at the American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Now until January 4, 2015 10a-545p.  Free with General Admission Plus One
In the new exhibition Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs, rare fossils, life-size models, and hands-on interactives bring these ancient animals to life.  Step back in time to see pterosaurs, including giants such as Tropeognathus mesembrinus,with a wingspan of more than 25 feet, and find out how they moved on land and in the air. Get a first-hand look at the rare pterosaur fossils that have helped paleontologists learn all that we know about these animals. In a virtual flight lab, use your body to pilot a pterosaur over a prehistoric landscape. Encounter the exceptional creatures that flew in the age of dinosaurs.

Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed at the Bronx Zoo
On going until November 4th 10a-5p.  Admission included in total experience ticket price.
Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed!  Nine new dinosaur species have been added this year including the deinonychus, prodohadros, stegosaurus, and edmontonia. Returning for the Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed, the ever-popular 40-foot long tyrannosaurus rex will send chills up the spines of Bronx Zoo adventurers.  At the end of the experience, there is a field site that includes a fossil dig for children; a Tyrannosaurus rex photo-op; a paleontologist’s tent that includes a fossil museum; and an interactive robotic dinosaur that illustrates how the animatronics work.

Le Carrousel in Bryant Park (midtown)
Now until October.  M-Sun 11a-8p.  One ride: $3.  Parents assisting children unable to ride solo will not be charged.  Discount cards:  buy a discounted card and enjoy 10 rides for $15.
Le Carrousel in Bryant Park, specially created to complement the park’s French classical style, is an homage to both European and American traditions. Its fourteen delightful animals, replicas of classic carousel creatures, revolve to the sounds of French cabaret music. The rounding boards, inspired by Bryant Park’s elegant baroque-style torchères along 40th Street, blend into the leafy canopy of the park’s plane trees.
