The weather coming up this week looks a little wet but don’t worry there is a lot of indoor things to do!

Monday October 20th

Gateway Storytime in the Discovery Room at the American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Mondays 1015a & 1115a.  Programs do not run on public school holidays.  Age: 2 1/2 – 5y.  Free with Museum admission.  Free passes for the 10:15 and 11:15 Gateway Storytime sessions are available the day of the program at the Discovery Room entrance on a first come, first served basis.  The Discovery Room invites preschoolers and their parents or caregivers to explore! Each week highlights a topic in natural science or a cultural theme. There is a period of free play followed by a story, song, and visit to a related Museum hall.

Beatles Sing-A-Long at Park Slope Performing Arts
Mondays 11a-3330a.  For ages 1-2y. Drop-in with caretaker $8 Act, sing, dance, and play with your baby or toddler to the Beatles’ greatest hits. Performance and play are great ways to prepare your child for school and the real world.

CommuniTea at Yoga People (Brooklyn Heights)
Mondays 130-230p. $5 suggested donation.
For all Mama Yogi’s before and after birth! The journey into motherhood is a time when mamas need an abundance of support and community. Come socialize while you are pregnant, keep connected after labor, share your birth stories, and introduce your baby! CommuniTea.  Occasionally we will have planned informal discussions, but most often we will just get together to continue to build our community.

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Heidi Siegell at Brooklyn Central Public Library (Prospect Heights)
Tue Oct 21st 11a-12n.  Free.  Dweck Center.
Heidi Siegell takes you on a musical journey through a magical world filled with bright and beautiful word pictures of the ocean, wind, stars and seasons. Heidi shares songs from her award-winning album In Stillness: Lullabies and Meditations for All Ages, as well as some well-known childhood favorites.

Read for the Record: Bunny Cakes by Rosemary Wells  at Brooklyn Public Library (Carroll Gardens)
Tue Oct 21st 3-4p.  Free.
Join us as we read Bunny Cakes by Rosemary Wells. This special story time is part of a national campaign that encourages families, teachers, librarians, and others to read the same book on the same day to promote awareness about early literacy and early learning.  There will be Read for the Record: Bunny Cakes storytimes in various BPL branches.  See the calendar for more information.

Zip, Zap, Zoom at Private Picassos Pop-Up Art Studio (Park Slope)
Tuesdays 4:30-5:15pm For ages 8-12 years.  $25 drop in.  All classes are drop-in, but pre-registration is recommended. Email info@privatepicassos.com to reserve your spot today!  Budding comic artists and enthusiasts will learn the basics to create their own comic book through hands-on activities and explorations of contemporary comic artists.

Wed Oct 22nd 10a.  Free.  Great class for 18 months to five years. (Adult participation encouraged)
About Storytime Yoga:  Combining the creative poses of yoga with our favorite books on movement, yoga, nature and animals, this class will have kids moving, Om-ing, and jumping between being entranced by the written word. Heart warming stories on life, love, family and sharing are interspersed with ringing the bells, blowing the pinwheels and learning the art of savasana enriched by books, books, books!

Yo Re Mi: Musical Yoga Adventures at SuperFrench Studio (Bedford Stuyvesant)

Yo Re Mi’s acclaimed Musical Yoga Adventures bring children on a wild ride using our bodies, voices and imaginations. With original songs and dances, we learn about nature, geography, languages and history.

Tinkergarten Drop-In: Lantern Making in Prospect Park
Wed Oct 22nd 330-5p.  Drop in $32/per child.    Register here.
Soon, we will turn the clocks back, and darkness will fall early on our day-to-day lives. This transition is powerful for all of us, and marks a significant change in the environment. We welcome families to embrace and celebrate this change with us by making and lighting lanterns—a tradition valued across the world. Check out our Let There Be Light activity to read more.  Kids who joining our Lantern Making class will work with Beth to make their own, beautiful fall lanterns. And, if your family can join us, kids can light and carry their own lanterns in our Community Lantern Walk, November 2nd at dusk.  Class will meet just inside the entrance to Prospect Park Entrance at Third Street and Prospect Park West and will end only a 5 minute walk from there.  Class is limited to 10 children and will be rescheduled only in the case of heavy rain or thunderstorms. Materials included in class fee.

Bitty Bunnies Sing-a-Long with Lavender Blues at Play Kids (Prospect Lefferts Gardens)
Thursdays 1230p.  $10 drop in.
Lavender Blues is an intimate music & movement session for babies and toddlers.  This class is babies only! Special 30 min infants only music class. A bit calmer and more intimate of a group! A lovely bonding experience for baby and you!

Free Thursday Hours at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Thursdays 3-5p.  Free.
Come join us for our FREE afternoon hours at the Museum, EVERY Thursday of the month! Free hours start at 3:00pm, and the Museum stays open until 5:00pm for all your fun exploring!

The Mystery Museum Train Party for Families at the New York Transit Museum (Downtown Brooklyn)
Thu Oct 23rd at 6p-8p.  For all ages. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 2-17 and seniors. Advanced registration recommended. Register here.  Go underground for fall family fun at the Museum! There’ll be a Spooky Subway Investigation for young detectives, music, colorful subway crafts and games and yummy refreshments. We encourage dressing up in your Halloween best for maximum magic!

Exploring the new frontiers of biology, health, robotics & technology!  Brooklyn Children’s Museum is excited to introduce young scientists to a number of interactive exhibits that inspire learning through a variety of topics including photomicrography, molecular biology, nanotechnology, robotics, and 3D printing. Join us and discover the amazing micro-world that exists beyond what we can see with our naked eyes. Find out how our new knowledge of science helps make the world a better place.

Playgroup at Bija Kids (Clinton Hill)
Mon-Thu now until May 29th 330-5p.  For ages 0-3y.  Drop-in – $15 first child/$7 additional child or 10 pack/10 visits $120 (expires 3m from purchase).  Take Refuge at Bija Playgroup When the Weather Turns!  After a nap and lunch, but before bath and dinner, come to hang out and play with other 0-3 year olds at Bija​. With parents or caregivers present, little ones explore puzzles, instruments, books, and plush toys in a warm, safe, and enriching environment. One our our dynamic teachers leads an enrichment activity each afternoon. Expect bubbles, parachute, paint, and more!  Parents and caregivers must remain onsite.

Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure at The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre
Wed Oct 1st-Sat Nov 1st various times.  See website for times.Ticket prices are: $7/children under 12, $10/all others.  Show is recommended for children ages 3–9y.  Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure kicks off on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 and will run through Saturday, November 1, 2014.  Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure picks up where the original Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre production leaves off; with the pair’s pet swan Samantha flying the children back to their humble home after their wild escapade in the forest.  Safely back at home during the Halloween season; Hansel and Gretel experience the most vivid dreams where Central Park and the Belvedere Castle serve as the backdrop for a magical explosion of music, dance and exciting encounters with a host of lovable characters. The brother and sister team once again embark on an adventure where beautiful mermaids, adorable monsters, swashbuckling pirates, charming vampires and a fabulous witch all intertwine for one unforgettable Halloween night in New York City.  See website for additional dates and times.

Tuesdays, Thursdays 3-445p & Saturdays & Sundays 2-445p. For all ages.  Included in the price of admission.
Over, under, swing, and rock as you explore our newest space at BCM. Unlock doors on our Sensory Snake or relax and read on our fluff chair mountain This is an inclusive space that engages children of all abilities. This room provides a welcoming environment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Space is limited; availability on first come, first served basis.

M-Sun various times see website for all the details.  $12/first child, additional child $6.  Package 10 for $108.  Our backyard is intended for ages 6m to 6y.  We do not offer drop-offs.  Caregivers must be with their children at all times.

Preschool Play at Wagner Park (Battery Park City)
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, now until Oct 29th, 2014 10am-12noon.  Free.
Join other toddlers, parents and caregivers for interactive play on a grassy lawn. Toys, books, and play equipment provided.  No sessions 10/14.   Location just north of Historic Battery Park, off Battery Place.

Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs at the American Museum of Natural History (UWS)

In the new exhibition Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs, rare fossils, life-size models, and hands-on interactives bring these ancient animals to life.  Step back in time to see pterosaurs, including giants such as Tropeognathus mesembrinus,with a wingspan of more than 25 feet, and find out how they moved on land and in the air. Get a first-hand look at the rare pterosaur fossils that have helped paleontologists learn all that we know about these animals. In a virtual flight lab, use your body to pilot a pterosaur over a prehistoric landscape. Encounter the exceptional creatures that flew in the age of dinosaurs.

Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed at the Bronx Zoo
On going until November 4th 10a-5p.  Admission included in total experience ticket price.
Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed!  Nine new dinosaur species have been added this year including the deinonychus, prodohadros, stegosaurus, and edmontonia. Returning for the Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed, the ever-popular 40-foot long tyrannosaurus rex will send chills up the spines of Bronx Zoo adventurers.  At the end of the experience, there is a field site that includes a fossil dig for children; a Tyrannosaurus rex photo-op; a paleontologist’s tent that includes a fossil museum; and an interactive robotic dinosaur that illustrates how the animatronics work.

Le Carrousel in Bryant Park (midtown)
Now until October.  M-Sun 11a-8p.  One ride: $3.  Parents assisting children unable to ride solo will not be charged.  Discount cards:  buy a discounted card and enjoy 10 rides for $15.
Le Carrousel in Bryant Park, specially created to complement the park’s French classical style, is an homage to both European and American traditions. Its fourteen delightful animals, replicas of classic carousel creatures, revolve to the sounds of French cabaret music. The rounding boards, inspired by Bryant Park’s elegant baroque-style torchères along 40th Street, blend into the leafy canopy of the park’s plane trees.
