Hope you enjoyed the weekend and excited to keep celebrating Halloween all week!

This week there are fun Halloween events at the libraries like the Toddler Halloween Dance at the Central Brooklyn Public Library, Alden Moves Dance Theater’s 3rd Annual Monster Mash at the Cortelyou Branch and a Halloween Party at the Brooklyn Heights Public Library!  Also happening this week is Masterpiece Mondays at The Jewish Museum, Tinkergarten has a Create a Creature Drop-In class in Prospect Park, Child’s Play NY’s Halloween Acting Class at Yoga People and kids can create Halloween Trick O Treat Bags at Carroll Park!

This is the first week of Ice Skating at Lakeside in Prospect Park, and the last week of Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed at the Bronx Zoo and of Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure at The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre!

Monday October 27th

Toddler Halloween Dance at Brooklyn Central Public Library (Prospect Heights)

Join us for a Halloween dance party for the toddler crowd. Come in costume!

Ghostly Fabric Sculptures at the Children’s Museum of the Arts (South Village)
Mon Oct 27th 230p-445p.  For ages 5+.  Free with museum admission.
To celebrate the Halloween season, young artists will create small fabric ghosts and ghostly fabric sculptures, by shaping and binding fabric and lace. They can draw faces or designs on the fabric and suspend them as moblie-like hanging art. At the end of the workshop, they will have their own unique Halloween decorations to hang at home!

Masterpiece Mondays at The Jewish Museum (UES)
Mon Oct 27th & every other Monday 330-430p.  Free with Museum admission.  For ages 4-7y.

Pop Up Pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Mon Sep 1st 10a-6p for 45 minute sessions.  Last Day for all NYC pools!  Free.
A great way to beat the summer heat, the pool is 30- by 50 feet in size, and maxes out at an easy 3.5 feet deep—making it just right for families with smaller kids, too. Swimmers of all ages and levels are welcome to enter daily from 10 am to 6 pm for 45-minute sessions starting June 27. After your dip in the pool, you can relax in a lounge chair on the adjacent sandy beach. The Beach and Lizzmonade Brooklyn are open from 10 am to 11 pm. Lizzmonade Brooklyn serves fresh, artisanal lemonades that are made to order, and offers light, pool-side fare for kids and adults. After 6pm, fresh fruit sangrias, craft beer, and wine are on tap.

Back to School Bash 2014 at Habana Outpost (Fort Greene)

Bring the kids out for one last day of summer fun at Fort Greene’s favorite family eco-eatery! This year, there will be free glitter tattoos, stilt walkers, arts & crafts and much, much more!

West Indian American Day Carnival Parade
Mon Sep 1st 11a-6p.  Eastern Parkway and Schenectady Avenue to Flatbush Ext.
Come experience the crown jewel of NY Caribbean Carnival week featuring costume bands, masqueraders, moko jumbies, floats, delicious Caribbean cuisine and much more.

Labor Day In Prospect Park
Mon Sep 1st 12n-6p.  Free.  Celebrate Labor Day in Prospect Park. Learn what it takes to become a naturalist! In addition to enjoying the Audubon’s exhibits and animal displays, take part in the Blooming Naturalist at 1p, Nature on the Go at 2p and Animal Encounter at 3p at the Audubon Center!  Also happening Lefferts Historic House: Race Around the Farm Yard 2-4p ($3 suggested admission) Enjoy potato sack races, spoon races, stilts and other old-fashioned family fun and Prospect Park Carousel from 12n–6p.  ($2 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets). Enjoy a ride on the historic 1912 Carousel, which features 51 magnificently carved horses, a lion, a giraffe, a deer and two dragon-pulled chariots.   See the website for more details.

Mon Sep 1st 10a-6p for 45 minute sessions.  Last Day for all NYC pools!  Free.

Tuesday October 28th
ALDEN MOVES Dance Theater’s 3rd Annual Monster Mash at Brooklyn Public Library (Cortelyou Branch)
Tue Oct 28th 230p For 3-4y with caregivers, 330p for 5-6y, 430p for 7-9y.  Space limited.  Registration required.  See link for details/registration.  Under Alden’s animated direction, children ages 3-9 will get into the Addams Family groove and go home with impressive party tricks for Halloween treating. All dance programs incorporate infectious music and fanciful explorations of rhythm, movement quality, and space–and the mini performance at the end of this Halloween party will be a real scream!  Space is limited so advanced registration is required for both the 3-4 year old and 5-6 year old classes (only children need be registered for the 3-4 year old section).

Tinkergarten Drop-In: Create a Creature in Prospect Park
Tue Oct 28th 330-5p.  For ages 3-5y.  $32/per child.
Our Park is full of brilliantly colored and shaped objects this time of year, giving young explorers endless ways to create and imagine.  Kids and adults who joining our Create a Creature class will work with Beth to use their imaginations and nature treasures to transform into their own forest creatures and enjoy the play and adventures that follow…and just in time for Halloween! We can’t wait!  Class will meet just inside the entrance to Prospect Park Entrance at Third Street and Prospect Park West and will end only a 5 minute walk from there.  Class is limited to 10 children and will be rescheduled only in the case of heavy rain or thunderstorms.  Materials included in class fee.

Child’s Play NY’s: Halloween Acting Class at Yoga People (Brooklyn Heights)
Tue 330-430p  $25/family.  For ages 3-6y.  Reserve your spot here.
Come in Costume…Leave in Character!  Our annual Halloween Acting Class is an amazing way to get ready for Halloween!  We take delight in creating the world of our special characters.  Through our unique theater games, kids find their new voices, bodies and learn about the way they interact with one another. We will read a special Halloween story, create magical witch brews and of course do the Monster Mash!  A one-of-a-kind way to get into the Halloween spirit and get ready to Trick-or-Treat in character!

Don’t miss our 12th annual Halloween-themed StoryTime class! Drs. Meridith Messinger and Rita Aronov from Mt Sinai Brooklyn Heights Pediatrics would like to invite those interested to attend another one of our FREE seminars “What You Need to Know When You Bring Your Newborn Home” which will take place on Wednesday, October 29th, at our medical facility. We will focus on breastfeeding, sleep, and common medical concerns specifically relevant to the first days and weeks of the baby’s life.  This is a practical discussion addressing a variety of situations that arise often in the first few days of having a new baby at home, and many prior participants have found it to be quite helpful. There will be ample time for questions. A quick tour of our state-of-the-art facility will be available to those interested.

Thursday Oct 30th 10a-3p.  $5 for students (with ID) and group admission, $8 for general sales.  Location:  Voorhees Theatre, 186 Jay Street (north of Tillary), Brooklyn, NY.  Theatreworks’ high-tech haunted hotel, the Gravesend Inn, returns again this year. Produced by Theatreworks, City Tech’s resident theatrical troupe with design, construction, and operating support provided by students and faculty of the College’s nationally unique Entertainment Technology Department, this theme-park-quality Halloween attraction has been thrilling children and adults alike since 1999.  To reserve tickets click here.

Spooky-Sweet Halloween Workshop at Chocolate Works (Brooklyn Heights)

Ice Skating at Lakeside in Prospect Park
Starting Oct 25th Tue-Thu 11a-6p, Fri 11a-8p, Sat 10a-9p and Sun 10a-6p.  Prices are as follows: skating admission (Wednesday–Friday) $6, (Weekends and Holidays) $8, skate rentals $6.  Ice Skating has returned to Lakeside in Prospect Park. With two spectacular 16,000 sq. ft. rinks (one covered and one open-air) seamlessly connected by an ice bridge, beautiful views of Prospect Park Lake, and indoor/outdoor dining at Bluestone Cafe; Lakeside is the perfect way to spend a day or night. Enter Prospect Park at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Lincoln Road.

WEE Arts Drop-in Session at the Children’s Museum of the Arts (South Village)
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 10:45 AM-12 PM, $25 per family ($20 for members).  Want to stay longer? General admission is just $6 per person after drop-in.  Music time! Story time! Art time! Join CMA’s WEE teaching artists for an art-filled drop-in session before we open our doors to the public. Parent and/or caregivers are required to join and we encourage family collaboration throughout the class. No sign up required.

Playgroup at Bija Kids (Clinton Hill)
Mon-Thu now until May 29th 330-5p.  For ages 0-3y.  Drop-in – $15 first child/$7 additional child or 10 pack/10 visits $120 (expires 3m from purchase).  Take Refuge at Bija Playgroup When the Weather Turns!  After a nap and lunch, but before bath and dinner, come to hang out and play with other 0-3 year olds at Bija​. With parents or caregivers present, little ones explore puzzles, instruments, books, and plush toys in a warm, safe, and enriching environment. One our our dynamic teachers leads an enrichment activity each afternoon. Expect bubbles, parachute, paint, and more!  Parents and caregivers must remain onsite.

Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure at The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre
Wed Oct 1st-Sat Nov 1st various times.  See website for times.Ticket prices are: $7/children under 12, $10/all others.  Show is recommended for children ages 3–9y.  Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure kicks off on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 and will run through Saturday, November 1, 2014.  Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure picks up where the original Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre production leaves off; with the pair’s pet swan Samantha flying the children back to their humble home after their wild escapade in the forest.  Safely back at home during the Halloween season; Hansel and Gretel experience the most vivid dreams where Central Park and the Belvedere Castle serve as the backdrop for a magical explosion of music, dance and exciting encounters with a host of lovable characters. The brother and sister team once again embark on an adventure where beautiful mermaids, adorable monsters, swashbuckling pirates, charming vampires and a fabulous witch all intertwine for one unforgettable Halloween night in New York City.  See website for additional dates and times.

Over, under, swing, and rock as you explore our newest space at BCM. Unlock doors on our Sensory Snake or relax and read on our fluff chair mountain This is an inclusive space that engages children of all abilities. This room provides a welcoming environment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Space is limited; availability on first come, first served basis.

M-Sun various times see website for all the details.  $12/first child, additional child $6.  Package 10 for $108.  Our backyard is intended for ages 6m to 6y.  We do not offer drop-offs.  Caregivers must be with their children at all times.

Preschool Play at Wagner Park (Battery Park City)
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, now until Oct 29th, 2014 10am-12noon.  Free.
Join other toddlers, parents and caregivers for interactive play on a grassy lawn. Toys, books, and play equipment provided.  No sessions 10/14.   Location just north of Historic Battery Park, off Battery Place.

Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs at the American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Now until January 4, 2015 10a-545p.  Free with General Admission Plus One
In the new exhibition Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs, rare fossils, life-size models, and hands-on interactives bring these ancient animals to life.  Step back in time to see pterosaurs, including giants such as Tropeognathus mesembrinus,with a wingspan of more than 25 feet, and find out how they moved on land and in the air. Get a first-hand look at the rare pterosaur fossils that have helped paleontologists learn all that we know about these animals. In a virtual flight lab, use your body to pilot a pterosaur over a prehistoric landscape. Encounter the exceptional creatures that flew in the age of dinosaurs.

Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed at the Bronx Zoo
On going until November 2nd 10a-5p.  Admission included in total experience ticket price.
Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed!  Nine new dinosaur species have been added this year including the deinonychus, prodohadros, stegosaurus, and edmontonia. Returning for the Dinosaur Safari: Mysteries Revealed, the ever-popular 40-foot long tyrannosaurus rex will send chills up the spines of Bronx Zoo adventurers.  At the end of the experience, there is a field site that includes a fossil dig for children; a Tyrannosaurus rex photo-op; a paleontologist’s tent that includes a fossil museum; and an interactive robotic dinosaur that illustrates how the animatronics work.
