The weather today reminds us that indoor time is coming since it is getting to be more brisk out! This week you can start heading to the Congregation Beth Elohim for indoor play as the Tots Drop in Center opens this week. Also there is an Open House at The Stomping Ground so you can find out all the information on classes and groups.
Also happening this week is a free art workshop with Brooklyn Art Room at Lark, Bilingual Birdies Speakin’ Spanish at NYPL Columbus Library, Stomp, Clap & Sing with Bari Koral at Brooklyn Central Public Library, Pumping 101 at Birth Day Presence and a Meet & Greet with UrbanSitter at Bija Kids. Thursday is opening day for Canstruction! The 22nd Annual NYC Competition will take place at Brookfield Place and be on display until November 20th. Thursday is also the first day of The New York Festival of Light in DUMBO!

Young artists and their caregiver will explore their artistic side by using their senses of sight, touch, smell and hearing to create two and three dimensional art pieces with natural and organic based materials. Full Description-Brooklyn Art Room is named after it’s birthplace and the idea that art can be created in any space whether it is your bedroom, a play space or the park. My art classes offer a studio inspired atmosphere as well as a developmental level of creativity using the senses. Students will explore the world of art making through two and three dimensions with many types of materials using natural and organic based products.

A foreign language and live music program for children ages newborn to five years old with parent/caregiver. The bilingual musicians teach through live music, movement, puppetry and games. Each session ends with a lively bubble dance party! Children learn basic vocabulary and short phrases while playing with instruments and fun props.

Pop Up Pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Mon Sep 1st 10a-6p for 45 minute sessions. Last Day for all NYC pools! Free.
A great way to beat the summer heat, the pool is 30- by 50 feet in size, and maxes out at an easy 3.5 feet deep—making it just right for families with smaller kids, too. Swimmers of all ages and levels are welcome to enter daily from 10 am to 6 pm for 45-minute sessions starting June 27. After your dip in the pool, you can relax in a lounge chair on the adjacent sandy beach. The Beach and Lizzmonade Brooklyn are open from 10 am to 11 pm. Lizzmonade Brooklyn serves fresh, artisanal lemonades that are made to order, and offers light, pool-side fare for kids and adults. After 6pm, fresh fruit sangrias, craft beer, and wine are on tap.

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Bari Koral at Brooklyn Central Public Library (Prospect Heights)
Tue Nov 4th 11a-12p. Free. Dweck Center. Bari Koral is quickly becoming one of the most popular kids/family recording artists. Her catchy, pop friendly tunes, interactive live shows & heavy rotation radio play have gained her thousands of young (and not so young!) fans. The band’s hit album Rock and Roll Garden won the NAPPA Gold Award and Silver Parents’ Choice award as best album for tots. Her current album Anna and the Cupcakes features 10 wonderful new songs for children and families. Anna and the Cupcakes was recently named one of the coolest albums for kids by People Magazine. Children may pop like popcorn, surf the waves, run like the gingerbread man & may even learn to jam with the band.

The weather is getting colder, and soon we’ll all be looking for more indoor activities to keep our kids (and ourselves!) from going stir crazy. The Stomping Ground is a great option! Join us on November 5th for an open house.The Stomping Ground is a membership-based, member-run play space at 636 Classon between Bergen and Dean. Members get a key to the space and can drop in whenever they want, 8am-8pm, 7 days a week*. Members also pay only $5-$8 for the great activities offered in the space, like Yoga for Tots, sing-alongs, Parent/Baby Pilates, and more! The space offers a great environment for kids 0-4, along with some things to keep older siblings happy as well. Membership costs $60-$70/month, and we have some scholarships available.

Canstruction: 22nd Annual NYC Competition at Brookfield Place (Battery Park)

Canstruction® is an extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world. Teams of architects, engineers, contractors, and the students they mentor compete to build large-scale structures made entirely out of unopened cans of food. The imaginative sculptures are then on view to the public until they are dismantled and donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Admission is free, but visitors are asked to bring a can of high quality food to the exhibition’s collection station. In anticipation of the Canstruction® 22nd Annual NYC Competition exhibition at Brookfield Place, past audience favorites will also be rebuilt and on display in the lobbies of 245 Park Avenue, Grace Building, and One Liberty Plaza. Once dismantled, the cans of food used to build these imaginative sculptures are donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Admission is free, but visitors are asked to bring a can of high quality food to the exhibition’s collection station.

The first annual New York Festival of Light (NYFOL) will come alive November 6,7,8, 2014. Enjoy the curated collection of lighting installations created by local and international lighting designers and performance artists and technologists who work within the medium of light. This year, this cultural spectacle takes place after dark in DUMBO, Brooklyn, New York, in the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge and Pearl Street Triangle (Pearl & Water St).

Parents, caregivers, and children come toghether to discover, learn and have fun! The Drop-In Center is held in our Social Hall, which becomes a large indoor play space with age-appropriate toys and activities. The program is coordinated by two early childhood facilitators.
