November is here and the days are shorter but the good news is that this week we have some nice weather so everyone should get outdoors and Prospect Park is the place to be! Spend today, Election Day, at Prospect Park with the events they have planned.
Even though the summer is over we don’t have to hibernate yet. In addition to events on holidays the park also has free events at the Audubon Center on Thursday and Friday afternoons in November and December such as Blooming Naturalists, Nature on the Go and Animal Encounters.
On weekends there are free Pop-Up Audubon events in the Children’s Corner and History in Your Hands at the Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park. November weekends they are doing Paper Quilting and Historic Games and Needlework in December.
My family was very excited when the LeFrack Center at Lakeside Prospect Park opened last winter. My children loved the ice skating. This past summer the LeFrack Center had an awesome free sprinkler feature that my children enjoyed several times. In addition they had a roller skating rink and a weekly Toddler Tuesdays skating event. Roller skating is done for the season and ice skating has started up again and this year there will now be an ice rink Toddler Tuesday! LeFrack also has ice skating classes for all ages, adult and youth hockey classes and curling classes.
The Prospect Park Zoo is another favorite of ours! We love the Baboons and Sea Lions. Starting this month and going on until the May 2015 there is a new Nature Playtime! on Sunday mornings with tinkergarten. On Sunday November 9th tinkergarten Nature Playtime staff will be across from the dingoes where they will be constructing a kingdom made of mud!
Get out and enjoy Brooklyn’s big backyard!
