A Fort Greene Focus article reported that AmazonFresh is expanding their NYC launch by now doing deliveries to Fort Greene and Clinton Hill in addition to Park Slope. The delivery service is available in the following zip codes: 11201, 11205, 11217, and 11238. AmazonFresh has been servicing Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco and launched in New York City a couple weeks ago and I wrote a blog post about it.
AmazonFresh is only for Amazon Prime customers in those zip codes at the moment. The orders are delivered free and have to be a minimum of $35. Orders placed by 10am can be delivered later the same day and orders can include items from amazon.com. On my previous blog post a reader commented that she tried it and the produce was fine but there was so much packaging. This week Gothamist has article about packaging problems with AmazonFresh.
Per the article the orders are delivered in totes with styrofoam coolers. If you get an attended delivery they can wait and take the bags and coolers with them but if it is a delivery left with a doorman or in your lobby you would have to keep the coolers until your next delivery. I did get an email from Amazon notifying me that I am now in the delivery zone. I shop outside my neighborhood for better fresh produce at cheaper prices when I can so I am tempted to try it and save travel time. Hopefully if the packaging is an issue it will eventually get worked out.
Has anyone else tried it?
