So there was no sledding yesterday but sounds like we will be getting snow in NYC this week!
If your kids are too little for sledding we have plenty of indoor events to keep the kids busy! This week we have Kids Movie Mondays at Die Stammkneipe / DSK, Little Scientists at the Carroll Gardens Brooklyn Public Library, a Free Trial of Baby & Me at Lucky Lotus Yoga and Shadow Box Theatre Presents: The African Drum at PS 3 The Bedford Village School.

Shadow Box Theatre Presents: The African Drum at PS 3 The Bedford Village School (Bedford Stuyvesant)

The African Drum is a truly magical “shadow puppet-and-people” show beloved by children for almost three decades. Come listen to the wit, wisdom and humor of four wondrous African folktales told by our drummer, our storyteller, our talented cast of performers – and See-More, our hallmark puppet. Listen to the beat of the African rhythms as they reveal the exciting musical adventure of the little girl Kijana, her animal friends, and the Zimwe (bad man) who tricks her. Learn How The Turtle Got Its Shell, How The Animals Got Their Colors, and why the Egret Flies Free all woven together within Kijana’s Tale.
Yoga With Toddler at Dou Yoga (Clinton Hill)
Tuesday 4-445p. For kids 2-4y. Drop in $17 or for new students $35 for 3 classes.
Get the wiggles and giggles out while also learning how to be calm and relaxed. Children and their parents or caregivers develop stronger bonds through practicing yoga together and engaging in imaginative play, creative exploration, cooperative games, songs, and stories. In this engaging and fun environment kids begin to develop body-awareness, coordination, strength, flexibility, self-control, and compassion. Adults reap the benefits of having space to move, play, and deeply relax.

Lavender Blues at Pipsqueak Children’s Shoppe (Bedford Stuyvesant)
Starting Wednesday Jan 28th at 4p. Free trial on 1/28 and $10 drop in after that. Lavender Blues is an intimate music & movement session for babies and toddlers. During our 40 minute classes kids develop an understanding of rhythm and music, build awareness and control of their body as well as develop social and coordination skills—all while singing, dancing and having fun! We sit in a circle, sing songs, play instruments, have movement with our fingers, arms and feet, as well as march, dance, and play with a ginormous parachute!! Toddler Time at the Brooklyn Public Library (Bay Ridge)

A storytime for children 18 months-3 years old and their caregivers. Hear great picture books read aloud, discover delightful fingerplays, and play with other children during this library time dedicated to active toddlers. Your toddler learns nine new words a day! Hearing stories, songs and rhymes helps develop your child’s vocabulary.

Bend & Bloom taps the enthusiasm of 5-8 year olds by integrating joyful yoga with creative self-expression using storytelling, music, and art. Fun-filled yoga sequences develops strength, coordination, and body awareness while yoga challenges build self-confidence. We introduce playful breathing, imagery, and relaxation skills that your child can carry with them into their increasingly busy school and social lives. * These classes occur simultaneously with a 60 minute open-level adult yoga class.

Free Trial Baby & Me at Lucky Lotus Yoga (Fort Greene)
Thu Jan 29th 330-5p FREE introductory class. After that, buy a 6-week package (2/5-3/12) for $108 or drop in for $20 per class. The class is about creating a stronger bond between mommies and babies. Babies are encouraged to develop their body movements and sensory skills, while mommies’ bodies reestablish and regenerate. Relaxed atmosphere is created for babies to socialize with everyone, while mommies’ tension from daily life, along baby weight, melt away.

Take Refuge at Bija Playgroup When the Weather Turns! After a nap and lunch, but before bath and dinner, come to hang out and play with other 0-3 year olds at Bija. With parents or caregivers present, little ones explore puzzles, instruments, books, and plush toys in a warm, safe, and enriching environment. One our our dynamic teachers leads an enrichment activity each afternoon. Expect bubbles, parachute, paint, and more! Parents and caregivers must remain onsite.
Jack and the Beanstalk at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)

Based on the classic English fairytale, this fresh retelling of the Swedish Cottage original production takes Jack on an enchanting adventure up a magical beanstalk. In this starry new world, Jack encounters the notorious Giant, Milford, whose thieving ways have brought misfortune upon Jack and his mother. Determined to make life better for his family, Jack, with help from friends old and new, risks his life to take back what the Giant stole.
WEE Arts Drop-in Session at the Children’s Museum of the Arts (South Village)
Monday-Friday 1045a-12p, $25 per family up to 5 ($20 for members). Want to stay longer? General admission is just $6 per person after drop-in. Music time! Story time! Art time! Join CMA’s WEE teaching artists for an art-filled drop-in session before we open our doors to the public. Parent and/or caregivers are required to join and we encourage family collaboration throughout the class. No sign up required.
FiDi Families: Community Cube at South Street Seaport
Monday-Wednesday Jan 26th-28th 10a-12n. Free. The Howard Hughes Corporation, in partnership with FiDiFamilies.com, and sponsor New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital invites local families inside the Community Cube at the South Street Seaport Mondays thru Wednesday in January. Children will have a chance to partake in music, arts, crafts, film and even kid’s yoga! January 26th: Music Beans – Providing a fun, creative, and enlightening place for kids music learning. January 27th: Music for Aardvarks – Kids music fun with catchy tunes and interactive experience. January 28th: “Heroes of the City” screening – Television series for preschoolers with stories that convey the message of helping, sharing and caring. In the stories, everyone can be a hero!
Holiday Express at the New-York Historical Society (UWS)
Now until February 22nd. Friday 10a-8p, Tue-Thu & Sat 10a-6p & Sun 11a-5p. Free with paid admission. Holiday Express: Toys and Trains from the Jerni Collection. The New-York Historical Society will be transformed this holiday season with the installation of a spectacular exhibit of treasures from the renowned Jerni Collection, now owned by the New-York Historical Society, of model trains, scenic elements and toys. The dynamic display will appeal to all age groups, showcasing the beauty and allure of toys from a bygone era. The exhibition begins at the West 77th Street entrance, where movement and sound from four large-scale multimedia screens will make it seem as though trains are roaring through the space. A 360-degree mountainous landscape will be on view in the Judith and Howard Berkowitz Sculpture Court, featuring artifacts grouped into ten scenes.
13th Annual Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Terminal (Midtown East)
Now until February 22nd. M–F: 8a–8p, Saturday and Sunday: 10a–6p. (extended hours November 22n-December 24th – see website for details. Location: Shuttle Passage adjacent to the Station Master’s Office. Free. Lionel trains once again will capture hearts and imaginations at the Transit Museum where Metro-North, New York Central and subway trains depart from a miniature GCT. The Museum’s store and booth at the Holiday Gift Fair offer great gifts for your holiday shopping!
