Neighborhood News: an Opening, a Move and a Goodbye!

Great news for Windsor Terrace per this Dnainfo article!  The owner of Lark Cafe in Ditmas Park has opened a “family-friendly” cafe last week.  Elk is located at 154 Prospect Park Southwest and is across from the Vanderbilt Playground in Prospect Park.

Lark has lots of sing-a-longs and events for babies and children and per Elk’s website, there will be kid activities in their backyard in the warmer weather and planning on indoor events too.

Also in the news Beam Center had their annual super fun Inventgenuity Festival last weekend in Cobble Hill for the last time since starting in February they will be in Red Hook.  Dnainfo is reporting that the new location address is 60 Sackett Street in the Columbia Street Waterfront District and it will be a bigger location.  Beam Center runs after-school programs, break and summer camps.

Beam Center has a promotion of a 5% discount on all programs and have extended it through Friday night January 30th per their Facebook page. Use the coupon code FEST15 at check out to save on after-school workshops, Midwinter and Spring break camps, and early registration for Summer Day camp.  They will be running free Sunday workshops for children in grades 7 and up and may expand weekend workshops in the new location.

Other neighborhood news is that the DUMBO Arts festival has announced on their website and Facebook page today that the annual festival is not returning after 18 years.  The decision was a long and hard one per their thank you note.  The festival was started in 1997 to attract people to the neighborhood and more than 220,000 visitors came to DUMBO for the festival in 2014 and it has become to large.  The organizing team elected to end the festival and want to make DUMBO a year-round arts community.  We will share any family friendly art events they plan in the future months.

Has anyone visited Elk yet?  We are excited about the Beam Center expansion and very sad about the end of the DUMBO Arts Festival!  If you have any other neighborhood news feel free to share in the comments.
