I had the winter blahs today but then I cheered up after reading this announcement from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The BBG’s Discovery Garden for children is going to re-open in June 2015!
The Discovery Garden will be a one-acre space which is four times bigger and they will be expanding the programing for children ages 1 to 12. The landscape architecture firm, Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, designed the garden with New York habitats such as a woodland, meadow, and a marsh. There will be trails and an area for the children to do hands-on gardening with soil, compost and food plants. The Garden is more than 100 years old and the youth education programs at BBG serves more than 150,000 children every year with classes and drop-in activities.
Don’t forget the Brooklyn Botanic Garden has free weekday admission Tuesdays-Fridays now until Friday February 27th. Also the February Break Discovery Days will be happening Monday–Wednesday February 16th–18th. Save the date on Saturday June 6th for the public festival celebrating the opening of the Discovery Garden!
Only 49 days until Spring arrives and 127 days until the Discovery Garden is open!
