This week has been so glorious after the record breaking bitter cold winter we had this year. My children are not a fan of winter and are so excited that Spring is one week away. Last weekend we went ice skating at LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park and it was the first time in weeks that we were actually spending time outdoors. All we have done for weeks is sprint from point a to point b all bundled up! That outing and the lovely weather on our walks to school this week got myself and the kids talking about what they are looking forward to this Spring. Today we made a list of 5 things they are looking forward to!
1. Spring Break
NYC public schools are closed Friday April 3rd and reopen on Monday April 13th.
2. Baby Animals at Zoos
We always make a trip to the Bronx Zoo during Spring Break and last year they had baby snow leopards for us to enjoy. The seem to be still pretty entertaining per this video of them playing in the snow earlier this year. We will also have to make a trip to the Central Park Zoo to check out the king penguin that was hatched last month. He was the first ever to be hatched in New York City! Also we need to visit the new brown bears, Betty and Veronica, that moved to the zoo also this winter.
3. Spring in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden
We also always visit the Brooklyn Botanic Garden when the kids are off from school. It is just so beautiful and we love to go. You can see what is blooming now on their website. If they have any children events during the break I will spread the word when it is closer to Spring Break.
4. Spring in Prospect Park
We are also huge fans of our “backyard” that we share with everyone in Brooklyn. We will visit Prospect Park also this Spring. The kids are excited that the carousel is opening up again March 28th!
5. Movies
We saw a few movies this winter and got to see the same trailers over and over and the kids are hoping to see Cinderella which opens today and Home which opens later this month and they will wait patiently for Minions which opens in July.
If we had a longer walk they probably could have come up with a longer list and I know the summer list would probably have 30 things they are excited for.
