Weekday Events in Brooklyn & NYC: March 16th-19th

Hi everyone,

Last week of winter and there are lots of weekday events happening to get you out of the house!

Tuesday is St Patrick’s Day so enjoy  Saint Patrick Crafts with Kathleen the Park Lady at the Carroll Gardens Brooklyn Public Library and the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade happening this week.

Other events this week are Stomp, Clap & Sing with Sugar Free Allstars at the Central Brooklyn Public Library, A Taste of Tinkergarten in Fort Greene Park, a Rolie Polie Guacamole Sing Along w/Andrew! at LARK, Rock with Adam at the Park Slope Brooklyn Public Library, Transit Tots at New York Transit Museum, a Moms & Dads & Kids & Disco! at SHWICK Market, Jack and the Beanstalk at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre and panel of speakers Teaching and Talking about Race with Children : A Dialogue with Parents and Educators In Community at PS 705.

Monday March 16th

A Taste of Tinkergarten in Fort Greene Park
Monday March 16th 10-11a.  Free.  Age 18-36 months.  Meet at Dekalb and South Portland.  If you are not sure, come join our free Tinkergarten® class Monday March 16th from 10-11am in Fort Greene Park. We’ll all meet at the Dekalb and South Portland entrance a few minutes before class, then walk in and experience first hand what a Tinkergarten® class is all about. It will be lots of fun, and we’d love to have you! You’ll hear more about our educational philosophy and the logistics of classes, and the leaders can answer any questions you have. Please reserve a spot now, as supplies are limited and spots will fill up quickly!

Drop In Story Time at Families First
Mondays 1115a-12n until March 30th.  Free! Families First Brooklyn is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Brooklyn families.  Serving the Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, and Boerum Hill community for nearly 30 years!  Join us for your child’s favorite stories read by Miss Stephanie.  Each Story Time will have a theme and include songs. For all ages.

Saint Patrick Crafts with Kathleen the Park Lady at Brooklyn Public Library (Carroll Gardens)
Mon March 16th 330-5p.  Free.  Join us as we make a crafts for St. Patrick Day with Kathleen the Park Lady.  Please note we’ll be making a beaded craft in which can be a choking hazard  for children under 4years old.

Tuesday March 17th

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Sugar Free Allstars at Central Brooklyn Public Library
Tue March 17th 11a-12n.  Free.  Ever dreamt of being a rock star? Well the Sugar Free Allstars have got the show for you! This twopiece band puts on a concert full of fun and funky tunes with so much interaction that everyone gets to be part of the act! So clear the dance floor y’all, it’s time to get this party started.

New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Tue March 17th 11a-5p.  Free.   The parade marches up Fifth Avenue past St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 50th Street all the way up 79th Street  and the Irish Historical Society, where the parade finishes around 430-5p.

Teaching and Talking about Race with Children at PS 705
Tuesday March 17th 630p.  Free.  Discussing issues of race and racism with children can feel challenging for many adults in caregiving roles, especially when speaking with the very young. It is a challenge that can be met if we embrace the importance of preparing the next generation to live in and foster an equitable multiracial society, and connect with others to share perspectives, resources and tools. Please join us for an evening of honest and open dialogue centered on this critical aspect of community life.

Wednesday March 18th

Rock with Adam at Brooklyn Public Library (Park Slope)
Wednesdays at 1030a-1115a until April 1st.  Free.  Come sing favorite songs with Adam from Kings Bay Y every Wednesday morning!  Tickets required so please arrive early.

Free Yoga Storytime at Karma Kids Yoga (West Village)
Wednesdays 1130a-12n.  Free.  Storytime comes alive with puppets, songs and yoga poses. Carefully selected stories that naturally lend themselves to yoga! As we read we’ll come across animals and elements of nature that we know from yoga…we’ll stop the story, do the yoga pose, then continue with our story.

Moms & Dads & Kids & Disco! at SHWICK Market (Bushwick)
Wed March 18th 4-9p.  $5 suggested donation.  It’s like a playdate, with drinks. And no clean up!  Come hang out, and bring the kids.  Make new friends, and give the sitter a break.  Movies and toys for the kids.  Drinks and good vibes for the adults.

Thursday March 19th

Rolie Polie Guacamole Sing Along w/Andrew! at LARK (Flatbush/Prospect Park South)
Thursdays 345-415p.  $10/family.  New time- Thursdays at 3:45pm! Come sing and dance with Andrew from Brooklyn children’s band Rolie Polie Guacamole. Andrew will sing familiar favorites with books like “Brown Bear” and Rolie Polie Guacamole originals like “wake up Shake up” and “Always brush your Teeth.”

Transit Tots at New York Transit Museum (Downtown Brooklyn)
Thursdays 1015a (except April 9th).  Free with admission.  For ages 2-5y with adult comapnions.  Stories, games and surprises for our youngest transportation fans with Educator Polly Desjarlais.

Science Club: Flight! at Brooklyn Heights Public Library
Thu March 19th 4-5p.  For ages 5+. Free.  Let’s make a balloon rocket and take home our very own flying hoop gliders!

Playgroup at Bija Kids (Clinton Hill)
Mon-Thu now until May 29th 330-5p.  For ages 0-3y.  $15 first child/$7 additional child or 10 packs also available.  Take Refuge at Bija Playgroup When the Weather Turns!  After a nap and lunch, but before bath and dinner, come to hang out and play with other 0-3 year olds at Bija​. With parents or caregivers present, little ones explore puzzles, instruments, books, and plush toys in a warm, safe, and enriching environment. One our our dynamic teachers leads an enrichment activity each afternoon. Expect bubbles, parachute, paint, and more!  Parents and caregivers must remain onsite.

Play Space Spring Schedule at Juguemos a Cantar North Slope
M-F 9a-12n & 2-5p now until Arpil 24th.  $10 per visit / Sibling $2 per visit.  Play passes also available.  Drop in play space with activities: Mon 10a Let’s Paint, Tue 10a Arts & Crafts & 4p Sing Along with Ale, Wed 1030a Sing with Tucker, Thu 1030a Sing with Ale, Fri 1030a Sing with Damian.  Also Play Space hours 9a-12n M, W & F South Slope location.  See website for more information.

WEE Arts Drop-in Session at the Children’s Museum of the Arts (South Village)
M-F 1045a-12p, $25 per family ($20 for members).  Want to stay longer? General admission is just $6 per person after drop-in.  Music time! Story time! Art time! Join CMA’s WEE teaching artists for an art-filled drop-in session before we open our doors to the public. Parent and/or caregivers are required to join and we encourage family collaboration throughout the class. No sign up required.

Jack and the Beanstalk at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Tue–Fri 1030a & 12p, Wed 1030a, 12p & 230p,  Sat & Sun 1p until June 28th.  Tickets are $7/children and $10/adults.  Based on the classic English fairytale, this fresh retelling of the Swedish Cottage original production takes Jack on an enchanting adventure up a magical beanstalk. In this starry new world, Jack encounters the notorious Giant, Milford, whose thieving ways have brought misfortune upon Jack and his mother. Determined to make life better for his family, Jack, with help from friends old and new, risks his life to take back what the Giant stole.
