Weekday Events in Brooklyn & NYC: March 23rd-26th!

Hi everyone,

Last full week of March and lots of activities to enjoy this Spring!

This week head out and enjoy the last Toddler Tuesdays at the Lakeside Ice Skating Rink in Prospect Park, check out a Free Trial Tinkergarten Class in Fort Greene Park, the Macy’s Flower Show 2015: Art in Bloom, Little Scientists at the Carroll Gardens Brooklyn Public Library, Babble at The New Victory Theater and Sing Along with Amy Miles at ELK Cafe.

This  week also go see The Dad Beats at PS 139, enjoy a Sing Along with Andrew/Rolie Polie Guacamole at OS Cafe, a Folk Song Sing-A-Long with Katy Stone at the Park Slope Brooklyn Public Library and celebrate Spring in Prospect Park on Carousel Opening Day!

Monday March 23rd

Macy’s Flower Show 2015: Art in Bloom
Ongoing at various times until Saturday April 4th. Free.  See website for schedule of events.  Macy’s Herald Square unveils its latest work of art in floral beauty, with the opening of the iconic store’s 41st annual Flower Show. Inspired by the great works of fine art, Art in Bloom is a masterpiece in design, structure, texture and color. Taking root on the Main Floor and beyond are eight intoxicating garden genres: Abstract; Pop Art; Impressionist; Art Nouveau; Contemporary; Surrealism; Renaissance and Portrait Gallery. This new approach to this time honored, much anticipated event will invigorate the senses and appeal to every palette.

Spellbound Explorers at at Birth Day Presence (Park Slope)
Mondays 11a.  All Spellbound Explorer classes are drop-in but have limited seating, so you can register in advance to secure a spot.  Single classes (online or in-person): $15/one child, $22/siblings.  Discounts available for pre-purchasing class packs online.  See, touch, smell, hear and move with your favorite stories as they come to life through creative play activities. Classes and public events are led by professional storytellers who specialize in early childhood.  Spellbound classes and Free Family Art Days will spark your child’s creativity and curiosity through song, puppetry, and creative play. Each week children and adults will dive into a story at class, and learn new art-based literacy activities to do at home.  Classes are drop-in on a weekly basis.  See website for all the details.  Classes are designed to engage a wide range of ages and developmental stages, but are most enjoyable for ages 9 months through 3 years.  We encourage a mix of ages to allow for multiple methods of exploration and problem-solving, and to welcome families with siblings of various ages. All children over 4 months must be registered

Little Scientists at the Brooklyn Public Library (Carroll Gardens)
Mon March 23rd 330-430p.  Free.  Does your little ones (Ages 3 to 5) love exploring and ask you a lot of Why questions about the world around them.  Say no more! Little Scientists is here to uncover discoveries.   Here is a special Storytime where we learn about different aspect of science through stories, songs, crafts and activities.  Limited Seating.

Tuesday March 24th

Toddler Tuesday at the Lakeside Ice Skating Rink in Prospect Park
Tuesday March 24th 930a-12n for children 2-5y and their caregivers.  $15 for one child & one accompanying adult.  Maximum (2) toddlers per caregiver.  Add a little winter cheer to your toddler’s day every Tuesday with an action-packed morning of toddler-only dedicated skate time on the rink, instructor-led games, music, play-based activities, snacks, and beverages.  Accompanying caregivers are required to participate in all activities with their toddlers and must be prepared to assist/monitor the toddler accordingly (Ice skating grippers will be made available on a first-come first-served basis for caregivers not comfortable on the ice).  Session includes: 60 minutes of instructor led activities 10-11a, exclusive toddler open ice skate time, toddler skate rentals, helmet, snacks and juice box.  Adult ice skate rental is available for an additional $6.

Sing Along with Amy Miles at ELK Cafe (Windsor Terrace)
Tuesdays 10a.  $10/family.  This cafe is new and awesome and will continue sing alongs all Summer in the back yard, but for now we will sit around the fireplace inside!! Same owner as LARK so you know the coffee’s good.

A Taste of Tinkergarten in Fort Greene Park
Tuesday March 24th 330-430p.  Free.  Age 3-5y.  Meet at Dekalb and South Portland.  Come join us for a sample of what Tinkergarten class is all about. You’ll get to experience the flow of a class and a sample of the fun learning activities we enjoy each week. Parents, join your child or send your child with another caregiver and learn more about the experience by email.

Wednesday March 25th

Babble at The New Victory Theater
Wednesday & Thursday March 25th-26th 10a & 12n.  See website for additional showtimes.  For ages 4m-18m.  Performance: 40 minutes with no intermission.  Includes post-show interaction.  Member tickets $10 and full price tickets start at $15.  Dive into the aquatic wonderland of BABBLE when you enter “the bubble,” a unique and intimate performance space designed to gently surround you and your baby with new shapes and sounds. To delight and astonish your little ones, soothing seascapes and schools of fish are projected all around while four singers provide a lullaby of vocal harmonies. Developed in close creative consultation with nursery schools and language specialists in Belfast, this theatrical experience will have your baby babbling and giggling along.

Folk Song Sing-A-Long with Katy Stone at the Brooklyn Public Library (Park Slope)
Wednesday March 25th 1130a-1215p.  Free.  Join Katy Stone for a sing-a-long for babies and toddlers! Tickets are required and will be given out 1/2 hour before the start of the program at the reference desk.

Breastfeeding Support Group at Gumbo (Boerum Hill)
Wednesdays 1230-230p.  $20. (Group generally meets every other week.) Call to let us know you are coming.  718-855-7808.  Breastfeeding Support Group with Certified Lactation Counselor, Bethany Nevin.  Successful breastfeeding is often dependent on the support of others.  Join our breastfeeding circle where you’ll gain that support and learn from the knowledge and experience of fellow nursing mothers.  As moms who have breastfed their own children, Mollie and Bethany know firsthand that while breastfeeding is a normal and natural relationship between mother and child, it can sometimes come with unexpected challenges.  Together we’ll explore these challenges as well as the joys of breastfeeding.

Thursday March 26th

Sing Along with Andrew/Rolie Polie Guacamole at OS Cafe (South Slope, Park Slope)
Thursdays 10-1045a.  $10/family.  Join us for a wonderful weekly kids sing along with Frank/Rolie Polie Guacamole.

Carousel Opening Day (Prospect Park)
Thu March 26th 12n-5p.  $2 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets.  Kick off spring with a ride on the Park’s beautiful 102 year-old carousel.  Located in the Park’s “Children’s Corner,” the Carousel features 51 magnificently carved horses, a lion, a giraffe, a deer, and two dragon-pulled chariots. Carved in 1912 by Charles Carmel, one of the foremost carousel designers of the time, and restored by the Prospect Park Alliance in 1990, the Carousel promises that classic summertime amusement will be available for generations of fun. In addition, the Prospect Park Carousel is one of the few in the world that is wheelchair accessible.

The Dad Beats at P.S. 139 (Ditmas Park)
Thursday March 26th doors at 545p, show at 615p.  $2/person, $5/family.  The Dad Beats! and special performances by PS 139 Music Teachers.  Fundraiser for the PS 139 Music Program!

Playgroup at Bija Kids (Clinton Hill)
Mon-Thu now until May 29th 330-5p.  For ages 0-3y.  $15 first child/$7 additional child or 10 packs also available.  Take Refuge at Bija Playgroup When the Weather Turns!  After a nap and lunch, but before bath and dinner, come to hang out and play with other 0-3 year olds at Bija​. With parents or caregivers present, little ones explore puzzles, instruments, books, and plush toys in a warm, safe, and enriching environment. One our our dynamic teachers leads an enrichment activity each afternoon. Expect bubbles, parachute, paint, and more!  Parents and caregivers must remain onsite.

Play Space Spring Schedule at Juguemos a Cantar North Slope
M-F 9a-12n & 2-5p now until Arpil 24th.  $10 per visit / Sibling $2 per visit.  Play passes also available.  Drop in play space with activities: Mon 10a Let’s Paint, Tue 10a Arts & Crafts & 4p Sing Along with Ale, Wed 1030a Sing with Tucker, Thu 1030a Sing with Ale, Fri 1030a Sing with Damian.  Also Play Space hours 9a-12n M, W & F South Slope location.  See website for more information.

WEE Arts Drop-in Session at the Children’s Museum of the Arts (South Village)
M-F 1045a-12p, $25 per family ($20 for members).  Want to stay longer? General admission is just $6 per person after drop-in.  Music time! Story time! Art time! Join CMA’s WEE teaching artists for an art-filled drop-in session before we open our doors to the public. Parent and/or caregivers are required to join and we encourage family collaboration throughout the class. No sign up required.

Jack and the Beanstalk at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Tue–Fri 1030a & 12p, Wed 1030a, 12p & 230p,  Sat & Sun 1p until June 28th.  Tickets are $7/children and $10/adults.  Based on the classic English fairytale, this fresh retelling of the Swedish Cottage original production takes Jack on an enchanting adventure up a magical beanstalk. In this starry new world, Jack encounters the notorious Giant, Milford, whose thieving ways have brought misfortune upon Jack and his mother. Determined to make life better for his family, Jack, with help from friends old and new, risks his life to take back what the Giant stole.
