The last weekend of March is here with lots of fun events happening in Brooklyn & NYC!
Celebrate Spring with the Carousel Opening Weekend in Prospect Park and the 2015 Opening Day at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park in Coney Island. Also this weekend is Brooklyn Center Presents: The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon, Brooklyn Kids Rock! at Roulette, The Rainbow Fish at the Central Brooklyn Public Library, the 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Annie’s Blue Ribbon General Store, the NPF Fiddlefest 2015 at Prospect Heights High School, a Freedom Art Jam at The Jewish Museum, P for Puppets Present: One, Two, Tres! at Gumbo and The Good Ms Padgett at the Jalopy Theatre!

The Dad Beats at the Brooklyn Heights Public Library
Friday March 27th 330-430p. Free. The Dad Beats are a power quartet wrapped in a playdate with a hootenanny garnish! Made up of four real live Brooklyn dads, the Dad Beats traverse surf, rock and country grooves to deliver playful re-imaginings of your childhood favorites. Wild Wild West PJ Party at NY Kids Club (Park Slope)
Friday March 27th 6-8p. $36/child. Held every Friday 6:00-8:00pm and on select Saturdays and Sundays (at various times), pajama parties are a one-of-a-kind thematic “after hours” celebration for children 2.5 – 8 years featuring gym exploration, art, story, cooking, games, relays, and more. All parties culminate in a disco dance party, and dinner is provided. This weeks theme: NY Kids Club is heading out west for a wild cowboy/cowgirl adventure. Children will go on an exciting journey through the western wilderness, create cacti and wildflowers, and participate in ring tosses, pony races, and pin the tail on the pony. The night will culminate with a square dancing party in the barn! Dinner will be served.

The Rainbow Fish at the Central Brooklyn Public Library (Grand Army)
Saturday March 28th 1-2p. Free. Presented by ArtsPower National Touring Theater. With her lovely coloring and shimmering scales, the Rainbow Fish is used to being the most beautiful creature in the ocean. So when the other fish ask her for some silver scales, she refuses. How can she sacrifice the one thing that makes her so unique? Will some good advice from the wise old Octopus persuade the Rainbow Fish to share her gifts with those around her?
NPF Fiddlefest 2015 at Prospect Heights High School
Saturday March 28th 2p. Tickets: Adult $10 & child $5. Purchase tickets here. 200 young Noel Pointer Foundation musicians are coming to Prospect Heights. Come join us for our biggest annual student event on Saturday March 28! Fiddle Fest is our biggest concert every year, featuring performances from our in-school and NPF students. 2015 Opening Day at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park (Coney Island)
Sunday March 29th at 1030a the “30th Annual Blessing of Rides” at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park. Free frids for 300 kids from the local Salt N Sea Mission. PLUS – FREE RIDES on Deno’s Wonder Wheel to the first 95 people for our 95th Year! Continuing a wonderful family tradition, Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park opens the 2015 season with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by park owners, Dennis & Steve Vourderis.The NYC Fire Department Color Guard will present the colors and sing the National Anthem. The FDNY is commemorating its 150th year. Deno’s Wonder Wheel is celebrating its 95th year.
The Good Ms Padgett at Jalopy Theatre (Red Hook)
Sun March 29th Show starts at 11a. Tickets: $5 for kids, $10 for adults, $25 for families, kids under 2 are free. Come sing, dance, and act out stories with The Good Ms Padgett! The New York Post says, “Think of her as the Pied Piper, but with a guitar. That’s how much kids love Brooklyn’s Anna Padgett… Your little one will fall under the singer’s folksy/funky spell.” The Good Ms Padgett will sing songs from her new release, If We Must We Must – lollipops, monsters, singing rabbits, and pizza are addressed in lovely lullabies and wild rock jams. “A nice eclectic collection for us nice eclectic families,” says Cool Mom Picks. The Good Ms Padgett is joined by her family, Miggy Littleton, and 8-year-old Penelope, as well as many special guests.

Brooklyn Center Presents: The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon (Flatbush)
Sunday March 29th 2p. Tickets: $9. For ages 4 and up. A young boy creates worlds to explore, using his limitless imagination and his trusty purple crayon. Join Harold as he rockets to Mars, joins a circus, and meets a king in an enchanted garden. Enchantment Theatre brings Crockett Johnson’s timeless classic to life in a multimedia production incorporating life-size puppets, masks, music, and magic.
P for Puppets Present: One, Two, Tres! at Gumbo (Boerum Hill)

One, Two, Tres!’ is a bilingual (Spanish/ English) puppet show created for babies and children, up to 4 years old. Children become immersed in a magical world of puppetry, which focuses on visual, auditory and verbal stimuli and provides a wonderful bonding experience between parents and children. Each act has repetitive actions and simple musical rhythms, which babies can focus on and enjoy, and toddlers will be totally entertained in a creative, stimulating environment.

Subway Studio at New York Transit Museum (Downtown Brooklyn)
Sat-Sun March 28th-29th 130-215p. For ages 7+. Free with museum admission. After exploring the sculptures, mosaics and contemporary art that decorate the city’s subway stations, teacking artist Katie Taylor will help us image and create our own subway installations that tell the story of your favorite destination.
Carousel Opening Weekend (Prospect Park)
Friday March 27th-Sunday March 29th 12n-5p. $2 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets. Kick off spring with a ride on the Park’s beautiful 102 year-old carousel. Located in the Park’s “Children’s Corner,” the Carousel features 51 magnificently carved horses, a lion, a giraffe, a deer, and two dragon-pulled chariots. Carved in 1912 by Charles Carmel, one of the foremost carousel designers of the time, and restored by the Prospect Park Alliance in 1990, the Carousel promises that classic summertime amusement will be available for generations of fun. In addition, the Prospect Park Carousel is one of the few in the world that is wheelchair accessible.
Macy’s Flower Show 2015: Art in Bloom

Macy’s Herald Square unveils its latest work of art in floral beauty, with the opening of the iconic store’s 41st annual Flower Show. Inspired by the great works of fine art, Art in Bloom is a masterpiece in design, structure, texture and color. Taking root on the Main Floor and beyond are eight intoxicating garden genres: Abstract; Pop Art; Impressionist; Art Nouveau; Contemporary; Surrealism; Renaissance and Portrait Gallery. This new approach to this time honored, much anticipated event will invigorate the senses and appeal to every palette.
Catch Me! at The New Victory Theater

Babble at The New Victory Theater

Member tickets $10 and full price tickets start at $15. Dive into the aquatic wonderland of BABBLE when you enter “the bubble,” a unique and intimate performance space designed to gently surround you and your baby with new shapes and sounds. To delight and astonish your little ones, soothing seascapes and schools of fish are projected all around while four singers provide a lullaby of vocal harmonies. Developed in close creative consultation with nursery schools and language specialists in Belfast, this theatrical experience will have your baby babbling and giggling along.
Ready, Set, Kindergarten! at various Brooklyn Public Library branches
Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays until April 19th various times. Free. See flyer for locations and times. No sessions April 3rd-5th. In this special six session series, families will enjoy stories and activities designed to encourage the development of early learning skills. Exploring literacy, science, and math through music, stories, and play will help you and your child get ready for school!
Camp Kappawanna at Linda Gross Theater (Chelsea)

A new musical with music & lyrics by Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb! Following the misadventures of 12-year old Jennifer Jenkins, an awkward and adorable 12-year-old kid, Camp Kappawanna portrays the fear and excitement of leaving home for the first time. This lighthearted musical, inspired by Lisa Loeb’s own nostalgic summer camp memories, has an acoustic sound that will take you back to nights spent around the camp fire.

Fancy Nancy returns in Vital Theatre’s hit adaptation of “The Mermaid Ballet.” Nancy and her friends are going to be performing in their very first show, “Deep Sea Dances.” When another girl wins the coveted role of the mermaid, Nancy is stuck playing a dreary, dull tree. Can Nancy bring fancy flair to her role, even though it isn’t the one she wanted?
Jack and the Beanstalk at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)

Based on the classic English fairytale, this fresh retelling of the Swedish Cottage original production takes Jack on an enchanting adventure up a magical beanstalk. Determined to make life better for his family, Jack, with help from friends old and new, risks his life to take back what the Giant stole.
