Hard to believe the last weekend of April is here! The spring is flying and we have another fun weekend of events happening!
This weekend get out and enjoy Sakura Matsuri at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, go see The Wizard of Oz at the Central Brooklyn Public Library, check out the Park Slope 5th Avenue Family Festival, do some shopping at the Prospect Heights Craft Fair, go see Brooklyn Center Presents: Dinosaur Train Live: Buddy’s Big Adventure, have fun at Tribeca Film Festival Family Street Fair and celebrate Opening Day at the South Street Seaport Museum.
Other fun ongoing events happening this weekend are The Trials of Alice in Wonderland at Tada! Youth Theater, The Mysterious Hat at The New Victory Theater, The Sock Who Lost His Mate at Players Theatre, Manxmouse: The Mouse Who Knew No Fear at BAM Fisher and Séquence 8 at New York City Center.

Arbor Day in Prospect Park
Friday April 24th 1-4p. Free. Location: Audubon Center at the Boathouse. How many trees are there in Prospect Park? Join Prospect Park Alliance naturalists and learn about one of the most important ecological features in the park. Enjoy games, crafts and an exhibit on Brooklyn’s last remaining forest, Prospect Park! Nature Play, 1–2p: Find leaves, twigs and other natural objects, and decorate your own nature curtain. Nature’s Helpers, 2–3p: Did you know that trees help trees? After learning how mulch protects tree roots, spend time spreading wood chips around trees. ID a Tree, 3–4p: Take an in-depth look at the largest organism within Prospect Park (trees) and discover the important role forests play in providing different habitats for the Park’s wildlife. Animal Encounter, 4–430: Curious as to how “Snappy” the turtle got her name? Want to watch the snake gobble up a mouse? Join Alliance naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. Learn what it takes to care for these amazing creatures and assist in an atual feeding.
Movies @ the Library: Planes at Brooklyn Public Library (Greenpoint)

However, poor Dusty has two strikes against him: He’s not built for racing, and he’s terribly afraid of heights. To achieve his dream, Dusty turns to naval aviator Skipper. Skipper helps Dusty qualify to take on Ripslinger, the race circuit’s defending champion. Dusty’s courage faces the ultimate test, as he takes aim at heights he never dreamed were possible.
The New York Children’s Theater Festival: The Sock Who Lost His Mate at Players Theatre (Greenwich Village)
Friday April 24th 5p. See website for additional dates. Tickets: $19.50-$27.50. Insecure Sock, Left, undertakes a thrilling quest to rescue his mate Right and liberate all the socks who have gone missing on laundry day, with a little help from some unexpected friends.
Séquence 8 at New York City Center (Midtown West)
Friday April 24th 8p. Tickets start at $25. Run time: 90 minutes with no intermission. See website for additional showtimes. From the spellbinding nouveau cirque company behind Broadway’s Pippin comes Séquence 8, a show that explores human emotions so intense that they explode into highflying acrobatics. Starring eight fearless performers from the Montreal-based Les 7 Doigts de la Main (7 Fingers), the emotionally intimate Séquence 8 redefines the meaning of the word “circus” through a unique fusion of acrobatics, hip-hop, humor, and propulsive music.

Tribeca Film Festival Family Street Fair
Saturday April 25th 10a-6p. Free. The Tribeca Family Festival once again invites you to the ultimate street fair and family celebration, where a dazzling array of FREE activities, performances and experiences unfold downtown in Tribeca. Step onto the Tribeca Studios Backlot and into a filmmaking experience, watch a live chef demonstration from a local restaurant on our Tribeca Food Feast Stage, fly a kite, play video games in the Games for Change Public Arcade, create life-size bubbles in the Bubble Garden, get creative in our Arts & Crafts pavilions, dance to live music and put a smile on your face. It’s time to take to the streets of the neighborhood, so join us for a special day of fun! Our Festival stages will feature special performances from current Broadway shows along with emerging talent from right here in Tribeca. Local restaurants, schools, merchants, and organizations will offer Tribeca’s finest foods, refreshments, activities and merchandise. Families can also attend free screenings.
Opening Day South Street Seaport Museum (Pier 16)
Saturday April 25th 11a-5p. Free. Check out the exciting things that will be happening all over the Seaport on opening day as we celebrate the beginning of our regular season! We’ll be having a $1 Membership drive for new members, live music from The Lobbyists, plenty of educational and family activities and tours, and more! Come on over have fun! Park Slope 5th Avenue Family Festival
Saturday April 25th 11a-3p rain or shine. Free admission, fees for activities. Live music & prizes all day. $2 activities, crafts, games, $2 popcorn and cotton candy, $3 t-shirt decorating and $4 bounce castle. Located along 4th Street at 5th Ave.
Prospect Heights Craft Fair at PS 9
Saturday 11a-6p. Entry to the fair is free and fun for all ages. Shop, munch and don’t miss out on our spectacular raffle. Explore a lovingly curated marketplace of independent artists and designers from Brooklyn and beyond. You’ll find an extensive showcase of handmade treasures, such as stationery, textiles, artisanal food, jewelry, and so much more. See the website for a list of participating vendors. There will be kid activities from 12pm to 5pm. For only $5, your child can drop in (with or without a parent) and participate in a number of kids activities including movement (12n), Lego building (1p), violin performance (2p), arts & crafts (230p), science experiments (3p) and improv & storytelling (4p).
The Wizard of Oz at the Central Brooklyn Public Library (Grand Army Plaza)
Saturday April 25th 1-2p. Free. Location: Dweck Center. Set on a Kansas prairie, young Dorothy Gale runs away from home when a busybody neighbor tries to take her precious dog Toto away. A sudden tornado transports Dorothy and Toto to the Wonderful Land of Oz, where she is greeted by Glinda the Good Witch of the North and proclaimed the National Heroine of Munchkinland for inadvertently killing the Wicked Witch of the East. The Wicked Witch of the West descends to retrieve her sister’s ruby slippers – but Glinda has already slipped them onto Dorothy’s feet. The Wicked Witch departs, vowing eternal vengeance. Presented by Plaza Theatrical Productions, Inc.

LC Kids: The Story Pirates Greatest Hits Show at Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse (UWS)
Sunday April 26th 11a. Recommended for ages 4+. Tickets from $10. The Story Pirates Greatest Hits Show celebrates creative writing by kids from coast to coast in a big, hilarious sketch comedy musical performed by professional actors and musicians. The performance is based entirely on stories written by elementary school students, and part of the show is made up on the spot by the kids in the audience! Called “crazy entertaining” by the Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, Story Pirates will keep you doubled over laughing, all the while motivating kids to pick up a pencil and write from their own imaginations. Sketches run the gamut from kung fu ninja babies fighting crime to cats flying to tickle monsters who rule the world. This 45-minute performance features a cast of 6 actors, a pianist, and colorful sets, costumes, and props that all come together to form a hilarious theater experience that everyone will enjoy and no one will forget!

Jack and the Beanstalk at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
