Schools are closed, pools are open and July is almost here! There are lots of fun events to enjoy this week.
Head to Madison Square Park for the monthly Madison Urban Club for Kids (M.U.C.K), check out the Trummy Tones at Hudson RiverKids, have a blast at the Baby Breakfast at Habana Outpost, get creative at the Dreamcatcher Workshop at Hiho Batik, visit Wild Wednesday at the High Line, enjoy JahPan at the monthly Brooklyn Kids Block Party at Albee Square.
Also happening this week is American Dream Quilt at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, $1 Movies at NYC various Regal theater locations, The Taming of the Shrew in Prospect Park and Moona Luna at the Children’s Performance Series at Riverside Park.

Monday June 29th
Madison Urban Club for Kids (M.U.C.K) at Madison Square Park (Flatiron)
Monday June 29th 10a-12n. Free. Participate in Madison Urban Club for Kids (M.U.C.K) program led by Gardener Steph for a lesson on horticulture and our environment. M.U.C.K. workshops are held the last Monday each month from June through September from 10am to 12pm in the Police Officer Moira Ann Smith Playground. Become an official member of M.U.C.K by coming to all four workshops with our newly created Club Card. Club Cards will be available and distributed on May 28 during the first Mad. Sq. Kids summer concert. Adult supervision is required. June 29th: Beneficial Insects: Kids will identify different insects and learn about their important role in the ecosystem. Free Summer Meals for Kids at Brooklyn Public Library branches
Monday – Friday until September 4th 115-2p. Free. Beginning June 29, Brooklyn Public Library will once again be participating in the Board of Education’s Summer Meals program. Children 18 and under can visit the Saratoga Branch, Mondays through Friday from 1:15 to 2pm to receive a free lunch. Check with your local branch to see if they are participating.
Hudson RiverKids: Trummy Tones at Pier 25 (Tribeca)
Mondays 630p until August 17th. In case of rain, Hudson RiverKids will take place in the lobby of Pier 40. Free. Hudson River Park brings out all of your favorite New York City family performers each Monday evening! From music to magic to interactive storytelling, Hudson RiverKids will keep your family entertained all summer long!

Baby Breakfast at Habana Outpost (Fort Greene)
Tuesdays 10a-12n. Free. Rain or shine. The courtyard of Habana Outpost is transformed into an into a toddler wonderland complete with toys, a water table and supervised art projects geared towards children 4 and under. Come meet your neighbors and watch your kids make new friends. Presented in conjunction with My Brooklyn Baby.
Superhero Training Lab Challenge #1: Your Origin Story at the Greenpoint Brooklyn Public Library
Tuesday June 30th 2-3p. Free. Have you signed up for Summer Reading and want to complete your six Summer Reading game board challenges? Then join us for the first of our six Superhero Training Labs! In this session, you’ll receive a notebook to decorate with drawings and collages of your own imaginary superhero. What are your super powers and where did they come from? We’ll talk about origin stories and then create our own. This is a great way to tackle your first Summer Reading challenge so we hope to see you there!

American Dream Quilt at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan (UWS)
Wednesday July 1st 2p, 3p & 4p and every day until July 4th. For ages 5 and older. Free with museum admission. Contribute to CMOM’s collective American Dream Quilt and express what freedom and happiness means to you.
Wild Wednesday at the High Line
Wednesdays 4-6p in July & August. Free. 14th Street Passage. For ages 4 and up accompanied by caregivers. Wild Wednesday takes place rain or shine, but may be cancelled in the event of severe weather. Check back or follow @highlinenyc on Twitter for updates on Wednesdays by 12:00 PM. Looking out from the High Line we can see the places and people that make our neighborhood a great place to live, work, and play. Join us on Wednesdays in July and August to learn about the ways animals and plants at High Line Park also make homes, eat their snacks, and help each other and us! July 1: Home in the Sky – How do plants get way up high on the High Line? Experiment with the different ways that seeds find a place to live.

Brooklyn Kids Block Party at Albee Square (Downtown Brooklyn)
Thursday July 2nd 10-11a. Free. Location: Fulton St + Bond St. Every first Thursday of the month, kids rule at Albee Square with special events, live music, and fun for the whole family. July 2nd: JahPan: Enjoy popular tunes and Caribbean-flavored sounds by one of the most exciting steel drum bands this side of Trinidad.
Children’s Performance Series at Riverside Park (UWS)
Thursdays in July 1030a-1115a. Free. Location: Pier i at 70th Street. Enjoy music, storytelling & theater for young audiences up to age 7. Wear sunscreen! Stroller parking in designated area is mandatory. Weather looking iffy? Wanna know if the event is still on? Visit nyc.gov/parks/soh 2 hours before the event. July 2nd featured performer: Moona Luna is the kindie group that the New York Daily News says is providing “the missing soundtrack for bilingual/bicultural kids.”
Theatreworks USA Presents: Skippyjon Jones Snow What (& the 7 Chihuahuas) at Lucille Lortel Theatre (West Village)
Starts Thursday July 2nd at 1030a and is running various times until Friday August 7th. See website for full schedule. Free. For ages 3-9y. This summer Theatreworks will present Skippyjon Jones Snow What (& the 7 Chihuahuas). Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the bravest Chihuahua of them all? Skippyjon Jones the Siamese cat who thinks he’s a Mexican Chihuahua of course! While his sisters listen to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Skippy heads off for the REAL adventure awaiting him in his closet. There, as his alter ego Skippito Friskito, and with the help of his friends the Seven Chimichangos, Skippyjon must rescue the beautiful princess Nieve Qué (Snow What), battle the evil dragon and defeat the Bruja. A brand new musical based on the book by Judy Schachner, Skippyjon Jones Snow What is a twist on the classic fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Geared for children in K-3rd Grade, this musical adaptation was written by Kevin Del Aguila with music by Eli Bolin. Tuesdays & Wednesdays 10a from June 30th-August 26th. Family fun movies playing on Tuesdays & Wednesdays for the summertime. Admission to these movies during the Summer Movie Express is only $1. Tickets must be purchased at the theater and all movies start at 10:00 am. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Will Rogers Institute. Search for a theater in your area to see where the Summer Movie Express is playing. The Taming of the Shrew in Prospect Park

New York Classical Theatre us bringing FREE Off-Broadway theater to Prospect Park with The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare and directed by Sean Hagerty. No tickets required—just show up! “The collectivity project” for Kids on the High Line
Tuesdays & Thursdays now through September 4-6p. Free. Location: West 30th Street. Build, play, and dream about cities using LEGOs and your imagination. Led by a High Line Educator, these special programs just for families are part of Olafur Eliason’s The collectivity project.
Splash Pad at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park
Mon-Sat: 10a-7p & Sun: 10a-6p. Free. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather permitting. The Splash Pad, officially known as the Matilda Raffa Cuomo Water Playground, is the LeFrak Center’s free water play area for kids 12 and under. Open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, the water feature welcomed over 30,000 visitors last summer. Featuring 47 water spray jets and covering 16,000 square feet, Splash Pad is largest water play area in Prospect Park. In addition, the LeFrak Center offers roller skating, the Bluestone Café, and surrounding landscapes for picnicking and relaxation.
Art in the Park in Madison Square Park (Flatiron)
Mondays & Wednesdays 10a-2p until September 30th. No sessions on the last Monday of each month (6/29, 7/27, 8/31 & 8/28). Free. The Mad. Sq. Park Teaching Artist can be found in the Moira Ann Smith Playground each Monday and Wednesday from June 1 – September 30 with free hands-on creative arts activities at 10am and 2pm. Children are encouraged to participate in free flowing art-based activities. Adult supervision is required.
Summer Art in the Park in Riverside Park (UWS)
Monday-Friday now until August 28th 10a-12n. Free. Location: Hippo Playground. For all ages. No registration required. This popular summertime favorite will return to Hippo Playground this summer. Please join us each weekday for this enriching art program. The class will take place at the picnic tables in the playground. In the event of rain, the program will be held in the park house.
Jeppe Hein: Please Touch the Art at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Open daily 6a-1a until April 17, 2016. Free. Visitors entering the park at Pier 1 will encounter Hein’s iconic water sculpture, Appearing Rooms installed on the Bridge View Lawn. Vertical jets of water will gradually appear forming seven-foot-tall “walls”, which moments later will disappear, enabling visitors to move to different “rooms”, all without touching a drop of water. Systematically, these “walls” appear and disappear through a timed cycle, enticing visitors to step onto the gridded platform and move from space to space within the sculpture. The cycle of changing walls may also be observed from outside the piece as a dynamic and perceptually engaging work of art. The second major component of the exhibition is a newly conceived, large-scale Mirror Labyrinth to be installed at the Pier 3 Greenway Terrace. The third body of work, Modified Social Benches, will be on view throughout the park,surprising visitors with each chance encounter. See website fore the full descriptions of the art.
Backyard Playtime at Norman & Jules (Park Slope)
Mondays 930a-530p and Tuesday-Friday 930a-3p. $12 first child, $6 additional child. Single 10 Packs also available. See website for details. Our backyard is intended for ages 6m to 6y. Caregivers must be with their children at all times.
Jack and the Beanstalk at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Tuesday-Thursday June 30th-July 2nd 11a & 1p.. See website for additional July & August showtimes. Tickets are $7/children and $10/adults. Based on the classic English fairytale, this fresh retelling of the Swedish Cottage original production takes Jack on an enchanting adventure up a magical beanstalk. In this starry new world, Jack encounters the notorious Giant, Milford, whose thieving ways have brought misfortune upon Jack and his mother. Determined to make life better for his family, Jack, with help from friends old and new, risks his life to take back what the Giant stole.
