Kid-abilities Day at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, live it up at the Rubin Museum of Art’s Chelsea Block Party, Pier 2 Family Field Day in Brooklyn Bridge Park, have a ball at Free Family Days at The Wyckoff House Museum and have fun at City of Water Day events all over NYC!

FAB Fulton: Free Concert for Kids at Putnam Triangle Plaza (Clinton Hill)
Friday July 17th 10-11a. Enjoy FREE Live Music Featuring: Shake, Rattle & Roll with Parents As Primary Teachers, Inc. at the Putnam Triangles is sure to engage children and parents for invigorating hands on drumming and interactive storytelling! Shake, Rattle & Roll is a parent-child, folkloric drumming program. Each series of Common Core classes include connections to literature, science, social studies, mathematics, visual and dramatic arts. Families get training in ways to integrate academically enriching activities into their lifestyles.
SummerStage Kids: Elena Moon Park at Brower Park (Crown Heights)
Friday July 17th 1030-1130a. Free. Location: The performance will take place on the basketball courts, located at Brooklyn Ave. & Prospect Pl. Elena Moon Park is a musician and educator living in Brooklyn, NY. Since 2006 she has toured with Brooklyn-based all-ages folk rock band Dan Zanes and Friends, playing fiddle, trumpet, mandolin, spoons, ukulele, and singing. She is also a freelance musician in NYC specializing in contemporary classical music. In addition to her music, Elena manages programs for Found Sound Nation, a network of artists who design and lead socially-engaged music projects, including the OneBeat international music exchange. Elena’s album Rabbit Days and Dumplings is a collection of reimagined folk & children’s songs from East Asia: a fun mixture of songs, styles, traditions, languages, instrumentation and stories that grew out of conversations with friends and family about favorite songs that linger in their memories.

Movies @ the Library: Big Hero 6 at the Central Brooklyn Public Library (Grand Army Plaza)

In this action-packed comedy adventure, robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada forms a special bond with Baymax, a lovable personal companion robot built by Hiro’s brother Tadashi. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to Baymax and his diverse group of friends – adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon, and fanboy Fred – who transform into a band of unlikely heroes (2014, 102 minutes).

Saturday July 18th 10a-5p. FOr all ages. Free with museum admission. Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act at Brooklyn Children’s Museum. I Can! Kid-Abilities Day features fun programs for children with special learning needs and cognitive abilities. The whole family can enjoy the day together, exploring the rainbow of possibilities found at BCM! Lots of events like The Cave Featureing Sensory Imaging 11a-3p in the Sensory Room, Painting Rainbows 11a-1p in the Greenhouse, Quiet Space 11a-3p in the Upper Level Party Room and more. Free Family Days at The Wyckoff House Museum (East Flatbush)
Saturday July 18th 10a-4p. Free. Join us this summer and fall for a family day! While our public tours on Fridays and Saturdays are normally geared for an adult audience, we’ve planned engaging, kid-friendly tours, hands-on activities, scavenger hunts, and more on select Saturdays. If the weather’s nice, bring a picnic and enjoy our grounds before or after your visit to the house. If you plan to visit with children under 10, we recommend visiting before 2 p.m. to take advantage of specially planned activities for younger children. City of Water Day (various locations)
Saturday July 18th 10a-4p. Free. City of Water Day 2015 will be held in two main locations: Governors Island, New York and Maxwell Place Park in Hoboken, New Jersey, as well as other activities and celebrations all around the harbor. While many of the day’s activities are on Governors Island and in Maxwell Place Park, City of Water Day 2015 In Your Neighborhood events reached many corners of our waterfront with more than 30 different locations throughout the five boroughs, Yonkers, and New Jersey. Come Out & Play Field Day & Family Day on Governors Island
Field Day Saturday 11a-5p Free. Field Day will be spread across the Parade Grounds on Governors Island. Come to the festival HQ tent on the Parade Grounds to sign up and start playing. Sign up for each game is on a first-come, first-served basis at the event. Each year Field Day showcases spectacular new field games & sports for adults to play. Come Out & Play Family Day offers games designed specifically for families and children of all ages, brought to the festival by ESI Design, one of the world’s foremost experience design firms. All of the games connect together with a fun story line about Time Travel — complete with an official Time Travel Agency, games throughout time, a growing timeline, and imminent threats to the space-time continuum! Play just one or two games, or try them all of for an epic Time Travel adventure. To get to Governors Island, you can catch a ferry from Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn Bridge Park. New York Transit Museum: Beach Bound: Coney Island
Saturday July 18th 11a-5p. Tickets: Members: $35 adults/$20 children, $50/$25. Join us on the ever popular, boardwalk-bound Coney Island Nostalgia Train! Ride the 1930s R1/9 cars of the Independent Subway System above and below ground for a two-hour jaunt. Then visit Coney Island’s beach-side amusement park, take a dip in the ocean, or stay on the train for additional rides. Update: we’ve added two 1920s D-Type Triplex cars to this ride! Tickets must be purchased in advance, no walks-up sales. Purchase tickets here.

Sunday July 19th
Pier 2 Family Field Day in Brooklyn Bridge Park
Sunday July 19th 10a-12n. Free. Games and races guarantee fun for the whole family at Pier 2 Family Field Day! This event is accessible to all people with or without disabilities. Enjoy obstacle courses on the play turf, basketball clinics, handball, and a James Martinelli led fitness class led by Dodge YMCA, tactile activities including ball pits, over sized blocks, a squeeze machine, and more led by Extreme Kids, bike rides accessible to the visually impaired riding along the park’s bike lane led by Intandem Bikes, and free skate at the roller rink from 10 am – 12 pm! Additionally, Giovanni Marcantoni will lead bocce games and Arthur Hauser will lead Shuffle Board. The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy reserves the right to cancel due to extreme weather conditions.
Summer Sunday Family Tours at the Guggenheim Museum (UES)
Sundays 1030a-12n until August 9th. For ates 5 & up. $20 per family (includes museum admission and tour for two adults and up to four children), $15 members, free for Family Members and Kids Club members. Registration required: call 212 423 3788, Monday through Friday, 1–5 pm; or visit guggenheim.org/families. Visitors explore the Guggenheim’s spring and summer exhibitions through family-oriented tours that incorporate conversation and creative, hands-on gallery activities. Rubin Museum of Art’s Chelsea Block Party
Sunday July 19th 1-4p. Event is free and open to the public (includes FREE admission to the museum all day) and will happen rain or shine. Transform yourself this summer! Join us for a celebration inspired by our exhibition Becoming Another: The Power of Masks. Art activities including making masks, prayer beads, bird rattles, origami, and more! Play Date at the Bronx Zoo
Sunday July 19th shows at 1230, 2, 330p at Grizzly Corner (by the bears). Free with zoo admission. Husband and wife duo Greg Attonito and Shanti Wintergate are the heart and soul of Play Date. The kindie music group is dropping by the zoo. They’ll be bringing their guitars and infectious energy, including popular songs like “Dance Like a Monster,” “Anyone Can Sing,” and more!
Summer Author Visits: Projects, Experiments and Design at NY Hall of Science (Flushing)
Sunday July 19th 1-2p. Free with NYSCI admission. Carolyn Bennett, author of Kaleidoscopia, will present her fun book about kaleidoscopes, which includes everything from how they work to how to make them. Carolyn will be available after her talk to sign books and we’ll have materials available for designing and experimenting.

Family Discovery Weekends at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Crown Heights)
Saturdays & Sundays 1030a-230p until August 23rd. Free with Garden admission. This is a drop-in program for families with children of all ages. Stop by the pavilion to create a nature-based craft, artwork, or invention. Experiment, learn, and play together in the Discovery Garden. Hands-on stations throughout the garden’s meadow, woodland, and marsh habitats, and in the vegetable garden encourage families to explore nature together. All programs are outdoors and canceled in inclement weather; for updates, call 718-623-7200, ext. 7801. See website for additional days in the fall.
Make It: Book Making at the New York Hall of Science (Flushing)
Saturday-Sunday July 18th-19th 130-3p and 330-5. Recommended for ages 6 and older. $4 per adult/child pair, plus NYSCI admission. (Members: $2 per adult/child pair.) Learn how make all sorts of books at Makerspace this Summer. Start with some simple ways to make a tiny zine or comic book and move onto sewing your own inventors notebooks!
Jack and the Beanstalk at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)

Based on the classic English fairytale, this fresh retelling of the Swedish Cottage original production takes Jack on an enchanting adventure up a magical beanstalk. In this starry new world, Jack encounters the notorious Giant, Milford, whose thieving ways have brought misfortune upon Jack and his mother. Determined to make life better for his family, Jack, with help from friends old and new, risks his life to take back what the Giant stole.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the bravest Chihuahua of them all? Skippyjon Jones the Siamese cat who thinks he’s a Mexican Chihuahua of course! While his sisters listen to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Skippy heads off for the REAL adventure awaiting him in his closet. There, as his alter ego Skippito Friskito, and with the help of his friends the Seven Chimichangos, Skippyjon must rescue the beautiful princess Nieve Qué (Snow What), battle the evil dragon and defeat the Bruja. A brand new musical based on the book by Judy Schachner, Skippyjon Jones Snow What is a twist on the classic fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Geared for children in K-3rd Grade, this musical adaptation was written by Kevin Del Aguila with music by Eli Bolin. Splash Pad at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park
Monday-Saturday 10a-7p & Sunday 10-6p. Free. The Splash Pad, offically known as the Matilda Raffa Cuomo Water Playground, is the LeFrak Center’s free water play area for kids 12 and under. Open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, the water feature welcomed over 30,000 visitors last summer. Featuring 47 water spray jets and covering 16,000 square feet, Splash Pad is largest water play area in Prospect Park. In addition, the LeFrak Center offers roller skating, the Bluestone Café, and surrounding landscapes for picnicking and relaxation.

CMA: Free Art Island Outpost on Governors Island
Saturday & Sunday 11a-3p until September 27th (and Labor Day September 7). For ages 1-15y. Free. Location: Outside Building 14 in Nolan Park. Bring the whole family and join CMA’s Teaching Artists, as we spend the summer making artwork inspired by Governors Island itself! Participants will create works that show the importance of nature and parks, and our place in between those two. We will be influenced by the works of Andy Goldsworthy, Nils-Udo, and Richard Shilling as we scavenge for what nature has to offer, collaborating with site specific installations, and showcasing interactions with the sun, trees, water, and rocks. And be prepared to exploit the creative potential of everyday trash, repurposing it away from the landfills and oceans, by making it into clever and meaningful art. Ready, Set, Kindergarten at various Brooklyn Public Library branches
Summer Session 2015 starts Friday-Sunday July 10th-12th at various locations and every weekend until August 16th. Free. Have fun at the library and help your child get ready for school. For children 3 to 5 years and participating parents or caregivers. Families enjoy stories and activities designed to encourage the development of early learning skills. Exploring literacy, science, and math through music, stories, crafts, and play will help you and your child get ready for school!
