It’s National Zoo Keeper Week, and the Bronx Zoo is celebrating with two concerts by Grammy award–winning kid favorite Dan Zanes. The concerts will take place this Saturday, July 25 — one at 11:30 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. —  and they’re free with the price of admission.

If you’re a Brooklyn parent, chances are excellent that you are familiar with Zanes’ music. With his band, Dan Zanes and Friends, he has toured the world performing his infectious blend of sea shanties, English music hall, North American and West Indian folk music, play party songs, and early rock-and-roll to enthusiastic crowds of kids. His widely acclaimed music has been featured on Sesame Street, Playhouse Disney, Nickelodeon, HBO Family and Sprout. After dancing to his music, your kids will probably be asleep on the way home.

And that’s not the only way we are celebrating National Zoo Keeper Week. For those who have been participating in the summer-long 120 Ways NY is Wild photo contest, this week’s wild card way is to get a photo of a zoo keeper tending to the animals at the Bronx Zoo, Queens Zoo, Central Park Zoo, or Prospect Park Zoo, or the New York Aquarium. There’s still time to be entered for a chance to win such prizes as a trip for two to Belize!

So bring your camera, and the whole family to Astor Court in the Bronx Zoo for a free concert by Dan Zanes and Friends this Saturday. A Child Grows in Brooklyn readers will receive a 20% discount by using the promo code: NYisWild. Don’t forget to wear your dancing shoes!
