A Fun Summer 2015 Reading List for Parents

As all parents know, reading time can be precious, if not non-existent;  that’s why we contacted the wonderful owners of the fantsastic Greenlight Bookstore  (Rebecca Fitting and Jessica Stockton Bagnulo) to give us their personal recommendations for books that busy, frazzled parents would not only enjoy, but be proud they read. These are not parenting how-to books, rather books for us to love as people and adults. Sometimes we all need help to cut to the chase, and here is their rundown of six cool books for us to read this summer- Enjoy!
Window Opens – by Elizabeth Egan – An honest, funny novel about a book (and bookstore) loving busy working mother, trying to balance and have it all. – Rebecca recommends

In a Dark, Dark Wood – by Ruth Ware – A smart, accessible psychologically engaging thriller, for the reader who likes books like ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘Girl on a Train’. – Rebecca recommends

Kitchens of the Great Midwest – by Ryan Stradal – A novel in stories about a brilliant chef in the Midwest. A fun and witty foodie escape, a pleasure to read. – Jessica recommends

Unfortunates – by Sophie McManus – Do you need to like your family in order to love them? This is a literary character study of an elite, dysfunctional family with a strong matriarch and her son, who begins to unravel in very public and unsettling ways. – Rebecca recommends

Tigerman – by Nick Harkaway – A superhero thriller set on a small imaginary island, where the main character has fatherly feelings for an outcast boy, but the book takes a twisted turn… – Jessica recommends

Euphoria – by Lily King – a fictional retelling of the life of Margaret Mead. Escapist fiction at its best (with great sex scenes that that you don’t have to feel guilty about reading because it’s literary fiction!) – Rebecca recommends
