BioBus at the New York Hall of Science (Flushing)
Monday August 10th 11a-4p and ongoing until Friday August 14th. Free with NYSCI admission. Travel into worlds smaller than the eye can see aboard the BioBus, the world’s only state-of-the-art microscope facility housed on a solar-powered 1974 transit bus. Zoom in on the tiniest of animals to find its microscopic beating heart, or use a handheld microscope to magnify your own eye and watch it pulsate in response to light. Project your discoveries onto large digital displays for your friends and family to see. Suitable for all ages and backgrounds, so come on board for a carbon-neutral, hands-on tour of the microscopic world. (Please note that the capacity of BioBus is 30 individuals and that we will accommodate visitors on a first-come first-served basis.)
Spellbound Explorers at at Birth Day Presence (Park Slope)
Mondays 11-1145a. All Spellbound Explorer classes are drop-in but have limited seating, so you can register in advance to secure a spot. Single classes: $15/one child, $22/siblings. Discounts available for pre-purchasing class packs online. See, touch, smell, hear and move with your favorite stories as they come to life through creative play activities. Classes and public events are led by professional storytellers who specialize in early childhood. Spellbound classes and Free Family Art Days will spark your child’s creativity and curiosity through song, puppetry, and creative play. Each week children and adults will dive into a story at class, and learn new art-based literacy activities to do at home. Classes are drop-in on a weekly basis. See website for all the details. Classes are designed to engage a wide range of ages and developmental stages, but are most enjoyable for ages 9 months through 3 years. We encourage a mix of ages to allow for multiple methods of exploration and problem-solving, and to welcome families with siblings of various ages. All children over 4 months must be registered. Movie Night at Cadman Plaza Park: Frozen
Monday August 10th 6-1030p. Free. Please join us for movie night at Cadman Plaza Park! We will be showing Disney’s Frozen after dusk in the park. Frozen (2013) Rated PG. 102 minutes. SummerStage Kids: Abdou Sarr in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park
Tuesday August 11th 1030a-1130a. Free. Come out and see Abdou Sarr! Abdou Sarr is an extraordinary, dynamic, and engaging dancer from Senegal, West Africa. He speaks English fluently and currently dances with highly respected performing arts education groups in Massachusetts such as Tony Vacca’s World Rhythms and Bamidele Dancers and Drummers. Since his arrival in the United States in 2000, Sarr has been busy dancing, making Senegalese clothing, taking additional English classes, raising a family, helping his family back home, and traveling with World Rhythms and Arts Are Essential, Inc. for the Senegal America Project – a cultural, educational exchange program. Sarr is a highly charismatic and responsible young man, making him an excellent role model for our U.S. youth on Africa, Senegalese culture, Muslim religion and the arts.
Stomp, Clap & Sing with Rolie Polie Guacamole at the Central Brooklyn Public Library (Grand Army Plaza)
Tuesday August 11th 11a-12n. Location: outside on Plaza if weather permits or Dweck Center. Free. Frank Gallo’s musical style blend’s acoustic rock, funk, and folk with catchy sing-alongs. Kids are encouraged to dance, shake, and use their imaginations in this musical adventure with Rolie Polie Guacamole.
CMA: Hudson River Outpost at Pier 25 (Tribeca)
Tuesdays from now until August 25th 1-230p for all ages. Free. *Workshops are weather dependent. Please check the website for daily updates or give us a call at (212) 274-0986. Location: at Pier 25 at N. Moore St. CMA will be putting the ARTS in S.T.E.M. in partnership with Hudson River Park Trust by inviting families to contribute to a Collaborative Diorama Project: Water Habitat Layers Collaborative! Each week, young artists will have a chance to explore the deep aquatic environment of the Hudson through thematic art workshops; while also contributing to a collaborative community project that will evolve throughout the summer. No registration required, just drop-in contribute when you are in the area on Tuesdays 1-2:30. This is a family program, no age restrictions applied. Children with disabilities are welcome. SummerStage Kids: Hybrid Movement Company in Sunset Park
Wednesday August 12th 1030-1130a. Free. Location: The performance will take place at the playground area, 44th Street & 6th Ave. The Hybrid Movement Company, a dance, acrobatic, and visual arts troupe, will present two works, Momentum and Are You the Dreamer? Momentum, a new piece, focuses on risk-taking perpetual movement driven by rhythms and flowing through melodies. It is performed in a powerful cohesion of Hybrid Movement, circus arts, classical and contemporary ballet, rhythmic gymnastics, bobbing, waving and popping. Are You the Dreamer? is a transubstantiated tale exploring beauty, ugliness, rejection, love, dreams, and fear through dancing and dynamic movement. The Hybrid Movement Company has been hailed by the New York Times as one of the most innovative Contemporary Circus Companies in the USA today!
Joe the Magic Man at the Park Slope Brooklyn Public Library
Wednesday August 12th 3-4p. Free. For children ages 6 and up. Younger children are welcome with an adult. Joe Magic Man makes sure that all of his tricks and acts are enjoyable to all ages! From rabbits to doves, children would love to pet the animals involved in each of his shows.
A Summer Movie Under the Stars: Happy Feet in Prospect Park
Wednesday August 12th 7p-11p. Free. Free. Location: Long Meadow North. Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, in partnership with the Prospect Park Alliance, presents free summer movie screenings. Lawn Time for Little Ones at the High Line
Thursdays 10-11a in August. Free. Lawn Time for Little Ones is a drop-in program (no RSVP required), and is open to kids ages 0-5 accompanied by caregivers. Every Thursday in August, stop by the 23rd Street Lawn to enjoy a delightful morning of storytelling, and sing-alongs, bubbles, and blocks with your little ones from local partners and stick around to build with blocks, explore art materials, and chase bubbles across the grass. In the event of rain or lawn closure, Arty Hours and Lawn Time for Little Ones will take place in the 14th Street Passage. Lawn Time for Little Ones features storytellers or musicians from some of the High Line’s favorite local cultural organizations, including the New York Public Library, and Housing Works Bookstore. Kids In Motion Festival in Columbus Park (Chinatown)

‘Christmas in August’ at Radio City Music Hall
Thursday August 13th 11a. Free. Location: outside Radio City Music Hall. Join Santa Claus and the Rockettes as they stop traffic on 6th avenue in front of Radio City Music Hall and the iconic dancers bring to life the wooden soldiers and rag dolls from Santa’s enchanted workshop in the North Pole.

Kids’ Discovery Stations at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Crown Heights)
Tuesday-Friday 1015a-1230p until August 28th. This docent-led, drop-in program is for families with children of all ages as well as camp groups. Free with Garden admission. Get your hands dirty at kids’ discovery stations throughout the Garden. Investigate a mystery plant, hold a water plant and learn how it floats, or go on a pollinator hunt in the meadow! Tuesdays & Wednesdays 10a until August 26th. Family fun movies playing on Tuesdays & Wednesdays for the summertime. Admission to these movies during the Summer Movie Express is only $1. “The collectivity project” for Kids on the High Line
Tuesdays & Thursdays now through September 4-6p. Free. Location: West 30th Street. Build, play, and dream about cities using LEGOs and your imagination. Led by a High Line Educator, these special programs just for families are part of Olafur Eliason’s The collectivity project.
Splash Pad at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park
Mon-Sat: 10a-7p & Sun: 10a-6p. Free. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather permitting. The Splash Pad, officially known as the Matilda Raffa Cuomo Water Playground, is the LeFrak Center’s free water play area for kids 12 and under. Open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, the water feature welcomed over 30,000 visitors last summer. Featuring 47 water spray jets and covering 16,000 square feet, Splash Pad is largest water play area in Prospect Park. In addition, the LeFrak Center offers roller skating, the Bluestone Café, and surrounding landscapes for picnicking and relaxation.
Art in the Park in Madison Square Park (Flatiron)
Mondays & Wednesdays 10a-2p until September 30th. No sessions on the last Monday of each month (7/27, 8/31 & 8/28). Free. The Mad. Sq. Park Teaching Artist can be found in the Moira Ann Smith Playground each Monday and Wednesday from June 1 – September 30 with free hands-on creative arts activities at 10am and 2pm. Children are encouraged to participate in free flowing art-based activities. Adult supervision is required.
Summer Art in the Park in Riverside Park (UWS)
Monday-Friday now until August 28th 10a-12n. Free. Location: Hippo Playground. For all ages. No registration required. This popular summertime favorite will return to Hippo Playground this summer. Please join us each weekday for this enriching art program. The class will take place at the picnic tables in the playground. In the event of rain, the program will be held in the park house.
Jeppe Hein: Please Touch the Art at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Open daily 6a-1a until April 17, 2016. Free. Visitors entering the park at Pier 1 will encounter Hein’s iconic water sculpture, Appearing Rooms installed on the Bridge View Lawn. Vertical jets of water will gradually appear forming seven-foot-tall “walls”, which moments later will disappear, enabling visitors to move to different “rooms”, all without touching a drop of water. Systematically, these “walls” appear and disappear through a timed cycle, enticing visitors to step onto the gridded platform and move from space to space within the sculpture. The cycle of changing walls may also be observed from outside the piece as a dynamic and perceptually engaging work of art. The second major component of the exhibition is a newly conceived, large-scale Mirror Labyrinth to be installed at the Pier 3 Greenway Terrace. The third body of work, Modified Social Benches, will be on view throughout the park,surprising visitors with each chance encounter. See website fore the full descriptions of the art.
Jack and the Beanstalk at Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Monday-Friday 1030a & 12n and also 230p on Wednesdays in August. See website for weekend showtimes. Tickets are $7/children and $10/adults. Based on the classic English fairytale, this fresh retelling of the Swedish Cottage original production takes Jack on an enchanting adventure up a magical beanstalk. In this starry new world, Jack encounters the notorious Giant, Milford, whose thieving ways have brought misfortune upon Jack and his mother. Determined to make life better for his family, Jack, with help from friends old and new, risks his life to take back what the Giant stole.
