September is almost over and the first weekend of the fall is jam packed with fun family events!
This weekend take the kids and enjoy the 41st Atlantic Antic, the New York Transit Museum: Bus Festival, the 2015 Chef One NYC Dumpling Festival at Sara D. Roosevelt Park, Chile Pepper Festival at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Autumn Moon Festival at Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Bounce Back to School Carnival at PS 9, the Breukelen Country Fair at the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum, Movies in the Parks: Frozen Sing-Along at Maria Hernandez Park, Harvest Festival at the Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park and the first BAMkids Movie Matinees this fall and see The Gold Rush.

Opening Day: NYC + Me: A Little Bite of the Big Apple at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan (UWS)
Friday September 25th 10a-5p. Free with museum admission. NYC & Me: A Little Bite of the Big Apple is a new interactive gallery that captures the quintessential sights, sounds, flavors and spirit of New York City. Inside this 3,000-square-foot immersive experience children take over the Big Apple’s sidewalks, streets, parks, plazas, public transportation, air rights and underground world as they playfully explore the city that never sleeps. Celebrate Fashion Week at Children’s Museum of the Arts (SOHO)
Friday September 25th 12n-6p (also Saturday-Sunday September 26th-27th 10a-5p, Monday September 28th 12n-6p). $12 per person ages 1-65; Infants, Free; Seniors, Pay As You Wish. For ages 5+. Celebrate NYC’s iconic Fashion Week at the Children’s Museum of the Arts with special fashion workshops in the Fine Arts Studio! Create your own unique design for a fashionable fabric bracelet or bow-tie using funky patterns and colors. Then create a mood board and sketch designs to inspire your very own fashion line!
Coke Zero & Mentos Fountain Performance by Eepybird (Flushing)
Friday September 25th at 4p. Free. Location: Unisphere in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. To celebrate the arrival of the 6th annual World Maker Faire, the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth, a first-ever Coke Zero & Mentos Fountains performance by YouTube sensation, Eepybird, will take place at the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York, at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 25, 2015. The performance is free and open to the public. This is an excellent opportunity to see this world-renowned, live science experiment featuring skyrocketing geysers of Coke Zero and have a serious amount of fun at the same time.
Movies in the Parks: Frozen Sing-Along at Maria Hernandez Park (Bushwick)
Friday September 25th 7-9p. Free. Location: The film will be screened at the base of the monument. Come before 7p with a blanket and have a picnic! Sing along to your favorite Frozen songs! The story: After the kingdom of Arendelle is cast into eternal winter by the powerful Snow Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel), her younger sister Anna (Kristen Bell) teams up with a mountaineer Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and his trusty reindeer Sven to break the icy spell. Rated PG.

Autumn Moon Festival at Brooklyn Bridge Park
Saturday September 26th 10a-5p. Location: Harbor View Lawn. Borough Hall’s 1st Autumn Moon Festival commemorates the 2nd largest holiday celebrated throughout Asia. Join us to celebrate the successful reaping of rice and wheat with traditional food and entertainment symbolizing harmony and unity. After the Autumn Moon Festival kicks off with the Children’s Lantern Parade, enjoy its family-friendly offerings including Chinese calligraphy, cultural performances, and traditional food as we celebrate Brooklyn’s diversity.
Chile Pepper Festival at Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Prospect Heights/Crown Heights)
Saturday September 26th 11a–6p. Rain or Shine. Adults $20, Seniors/Students 12+ $15, children under 12 and BBG Members free. Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s is back again with 5 blazing bands, 2 legendary fire breathers, 7 hours of choclate debauchery, 52 firey food artisans, 52 acres of gorgeous gards and 23 years of spicy culture. Bounce Back to School Carnival at PS 9 (Prospect Heights)
Saturday September 26th 11a-5p. Admission: $5/adult and $2 per child (children under 2 free and each child ticket is good for one free bounce). This year’s carnival will feature 5 Bouncy Houses (including 1 for toddlers), face painting, carnival games, raffle, and a huge outdoor dance party! There will be BBQ, drinks, popcorn and other snacks for all to enjoy. Tickets for Bounce Houses (1 Ticket), Carnival Games (1 Ticket) and Food (Varies): 1 ticket $2, 6 tickets $10, 12 ticket $20 and all day bounce bracelet $35 (covers unlimited bounce house entry only)
2015 Chef One NYC Dumpling Festival at Sara D. Roosevelt Park (Chinatown)
Saturday September 26th 12n-5p. Free admission for all! Attendees can purchase tasting tickets; one ticket entitles you to four servings from any participating restaurant or booth at the Festival and serve as your entry into our raffle draw to some amazing prizes! Tickets are valued at $20 and sold on the day of the event. Ful-filling Festival From pierogis to potstickers and everything in between, the 2015 Chef One New York City Dumpling Festival is just the event for all the dumpling lovers out there. Purchase tasting tickets on the day of the event to sample a selection of dumplings from cultures around the world. Previous event have featured offerings from Italy, China, Poland, etc. This year will include the highly-anticipated 12th Annual Chef One Dumpling Eating Contest, one of the most exciting eating competitions in New York City! Come and cheer on your favorite contenders as they attempt to upset the record of 90 dumplings in two minutes! It doesn’t end there! We will feature live cultural performances, photo booth, lucky draws and interactive games for nonstop entertainment. Sunday September 27th 11a-6p. Free. Rain or shine. Location: on Boerum Place between State Street and Atlantic Avenue at the Atlantic Antic. Beep! Beep! Join us for the 22nd annual Bus Festival! Explore our vintage fleet of buses and surface transportation vehicles, participate in hands-on activities for kids, shop for bus-related gifts and transit memoriabilia. $1 admission to the Museum just one block away (Museum cloes at 5p with last admission at 430p)
41st Atlantic Antic

THE ANNUAL ATLANTIC ANTIC™, presented by the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation (AALDC), is oldest and largest street festival in New York City! On this beautiful autumn day in Brooklyn, the Atlantic Antic™ brings together hundreds of thousands of people to Atlantic Avenue to celebrate the longstanding tradition of food, art, music, shopping, festivities, and fun! Pinkalicious, The Musical at Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater (UWS)
Sundays 11a until October 25th. Tickets: $49.50-$59.50. For ages 2 to 10y. All children over 1 year must have a ticket. Performances run 1 hour. Pinkalicious can’t stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe – a dream come true for this pink loving enthusiast. But when her hue goes too far, only Pinkalicious can figure out a way to get out of this predicament.
Harvest Festival at the Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park
Sunday September 27th 1-4p. $3 suggested donation. Come celebrate this year’s harvest at the Lefferts Historic House. Reap, cook and eat potatoes that were planted in our garden back in May. You can also challenge friends and family to potato sack races!
BAMkids Movie Matinees: The Gold Rush (Fort Greene)
Sunday September 27th at 2p at BAM Rose Cinemas. Tickets: $7 for children 12 and under, $10 for adults. The Gold Rush: Chaplin delights in this silent comedy masterpiece in which the beloved Little Tramp ventures to the Klondike in search of gold. Bursting with ingenious, iconic set pieces—from the famous dinner roll dance to preparing a meal of boiled boot to the house-teetering-on-a-cliff climax—The Gold Rush is a hilarious and heartfelt classic. Halloween Harvest at Luna Park (Coney Island)
Saturday-Sunday starting Saturday September 26th until November 1st. Free admission. Fees for rides and games. See website for hours. The colors are changing and it’s finally cooling down! Fall is definitely on the horizon, and that means Halloween Harvest at Luna Park in Coney Island! Join us every weekend from Sept 26 through Nov 1 for a family-friendly event filled with tons of activities, entertainment, and of course the Luna Park rides and games you know and love! Each weekend there will be FREE fun things to do such as Coney Carnival for airbrush tattoos, face painting and balloon animals, magicians strolling along the boardwalk, hair braiders, jugglers and Monster Mash Stage for dancing and contests, also Creepy Crawly Halloween themed Crafts and Camp Luna for stories and s’mores. World Maker Faire at the NY Hall of Science (Flushing)

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. Family Discovery Weekends at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Crown Heights)
Saturdays & Sundays September 19th-November 1st 1030a-230p. No programs September 26; October 10, 11, 24. Free with Garden admission. This is a drop-in program for families with children of all ages. Stop by the pavilion to create a nature-based craft, artwork, or invention. Experiment, learn, and play together in the Discovery Garden. Hands-on stations throughout the garden’s meadow, woodland, and marsh habitats, and in the vegetable garden encourage families to explore nature together. Amazing Maize Maze at Queens County Farm Museum
Saturdays & Sundays until October 25th & Columbus Day (10/12) 11a-430p (weather permitting, last ticket sold 430p). Amazing Maize Maze: $9 adults, $5 kids age 4 to 11, free for kids age 3 and under. Ready to be amaaazed? Kids and adults alike will have fun finding their way out of this 3-acre corn labyrinth! The adventure begins with a “Stalk Talk” to prepare you for the challenge of finding clues, solving puzzles and making your way out of the maze. Feel up to the challenge? Then join us for the fun of getting lost and loving it! *NOTE: Oct 25th there is an admission fee to enter the farm grounds for the Children’s Fall Festival.
Transforming Food at the Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park
Saturday-Sundays 2-4p until September 27th. $3 suggested donation. Join the Prospect Park Alliance to help make tasty treats in the Lefferts wood-burning hearth. Roll up your sleeves and help churn butter, grind corn and peel apples. We will be making herb butter for popcorn and apple pie for all to share.
Pop-Up Audubon: Radical Raptors in Prospect Park
Saturday-Sunday until September 27th 10a-3p. Free. Location: Zucker Natural Exploration Area. Learn what makes birds of prey so radical and learn about different species of raptors that migrate through Prospect Park. Nature Play, 10–2 pm: Join Alliance naturalists and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and develop self-reliance, creativity and problem-solving skills through different outdoor play-based activities. Program includes opportunities to dissect an owl pellet and paint with mud! Nature’s Helpers, 1 pm: Did you know that trees help trees? After learning how mulch protects tree roots, spend time spreading wood chips around trees. Family Bird Watching, 2 pm: Did you know that as an Important Bird Area, Prospect Park supports an exceptional diversity of migrating birds and is an essential stopover for about 250 species of birds? After learning how to use binoculars, participants of all ages can join Alliance Naturalists on a walk to learn how to identify these birds!

CMA: Free Art Island Outpost on Governors Island
Saturday & Sunday 11a-3p until September 27th. For ages 1-15y. Free. Location: Outside Building 14 in Nolan Park. Bring the whole family and join CMA’s Teaching Artists, as we spend the summer making artwork inspired by Governors Island itself! Participants will create works that show the importance of nature and parks, and our place in between those two. We will be influenced by the works of Andy Goldsworthy, Nils-Udo, and Richard Shilling as we scavenge for what nature has to offer, collaborating with site specific installations, and showcasing interactions with the sun, trees, water, and rocks. And be prepared to exploit the creative potential of everyday trash, repurposing it away from the landfills and oceans, by making it into clever and meaningful art.
