The sun is shining again and there are so many weekday events happening this Fall in Brooklyn & NYC!
This week take the kids to Spellbound Explorers Class: Subways! at The Birth Day Presence Studio, Stomp, Clap & Sing with Bilingual Birdies at the Central Brooklyn Public Library, Sing-a-longs with Mary Jo at Norman & Jules Backyard, Hoots & Hollers: The Nature Company at Explorers Academy Preschool, Free Yoga Storytime at Karma Kids Yoga, Hopalong Andrew Sing-A-Long at at Cobble Hill Park, Free Kids Gardening Classes at the South Brooklyn Children’s Garden, Play & Learn with Kids Yoga at Dou Yoga, The Big Littles at ELK Cafe and Wednesdays in Teardrop Park.
Also starting this week is some ongoing events like the Kids’ Discovery Stations at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Playgroup at Bija Kids!

Monday October 5th
The Big Littles at ELK Cafe (Windsor Terrace)
Mondays 10-1045a. $5. The Big Littles are both dads of super cute toddlers, they both live in super cute Brooklyn and together they make up the Big Littles, a super cute acoustic pop rock duo that deftly walks the tightrope of making genuinely enjoyable music for kids and for grownups. Little guitar. Little drum set. Super cute
Spellbound Explorers Class: Subways! at The Birth Day Presence Studio (Park Slope)
Monday October 5th 11-1145a. Drop in. Single classes: $15/one child, $22/siblings 8-class pack: $100/one child, $146/siblings (cash or credit card). For ages 4 months through 3 years. All children over 4 months must be registered. Spellbound Explorers is a mixed-age class. Classes are designed to engage a wide range of ages and developmental stages, but are most enjoyable. We encourage a mix of ages to allow for multiple methods of exploration and problem-solving, and to welcome families with siblings of various ages. Explore one story a week through song, story, and play. Children will have a chance to socialize, develop pre-literacy and imaginative skills, and learn new stories. Grown-ups will have a chance to learn stories and songs that they can do at home. Each week is a new story and theme, explored through art-based play. The theme this week is New York’s exciting subway system! See the website for future themes.
Play & Learn with Kids Yoga at Dou Yoga (Clinton Hill)
Mondays until November 16th 330-415p. $13 drop in or register for all sessions for $50. 6 week Session (with extra make up class) October 5th-November 16th. For ages 3-5y. Through circus arts and creative play, Mindful Movement introduces children to the mindfulness based yoga principles in a fun, child-centered weekly experience. Through the use of props, partner poses and music, participants will build group connections and individual core strength while having a ball. Come with your little one and stretch, dance, balance and most importantly play! Everyone has a place on the mat! Together we will go from silly to calm as we build this creative space we build together.

Tuesday October 6th
Stomp, Clap & Sing with Bilingual Birdies at the Central Brooklyn Public Library (Grand Army)
Tuesday October 6th 11a. Free. Location: Dweck Center. The Bilingual Birdies Band celebrates language and culture in 45 minutes of fun-filled live music and dance! Learn new words while you sing along to original hip tunes and your favorite traditional folk songs. Expect a high energy performance of instruments like guitar, trumpet and percussion that will encourage everyone to be a part of the show!
Kids’ Discovery Stations at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Crown Heights)
Tuesday October 6th 1015a-1230p and ongoing Tuesday-Friday until November 6th. Free with Garden admission (Garden admission free on Tuesdays). This docent-led, drop-in program is for families with children of all ages as well as camp groups. Get your hands dirty at kids’ Discovery stations throughout the Garden. Investigate a mystery plant, hold a water plant and learn how it floats, or go on a pollinator hunt in the meadow! All programs are outdoors and canceled in inclement weather; for updates, call 718-623-7200, ext. 7801.
Sing-a-longs with Mary Jo at Norman & Jules Backyard (Park Slope)
Tuesday 4-445p. $12/for first child and $3 for additional child. For infants to 4yrs. Caregivers must be with their children at all times. MJ’s background in music, theater and comedy and children’s entertainment brings out child in everyone.

Wednesday October 7th
Free Yoga Storytime at Karma Kids Yoga (Flatiron)
Wednesdays 1130a-12n. Free. Suggested for kids up to age 6. Storytime comes alive with puppets, songs and yoga poses. Carefully selected stories that naturally lend themselves to yoga! As we read we’ll come across animals and elements of nature that we know from yoga…we’ll stop the story, do the yoga pose, then continue with our story. StoryTime is 30 minutes.
Wednesdays in Teardrop Park (Battery Park City)
Wednesdays, now until October 28th 330-530pm. Free. Please note: this program is for children 5 years and older and that all art materials are provided. School-age children are invited to join in creative art activities and spirited games in magical Teardrop Park. Art projects include painting, collage, sculpture, nature-based art projects, and more. The art portion takes place for the entire two-hour program. Starting at 4:30pm the energetic lawn games begin. Taking advantage of the Teardrop Park landscape these group games can include dramatic play, tag, capture the flag, and running games of all sorts. Children are invited to suggest their own ideas as well.
Free Kids Gardening Classes at the South Brooklyn Children’s Garden
Wednesdays 4-445p until October 14th. Free. Join the South Brooklyn Children’s Garden for a weekly free class that runs every Wednesday at 4 p.m. through October 14. The class is for 2 to 5 year olds and parent/caregiver participation is expected. Class themes vary, a list of some examples is listed below. This class is a continuation of the summer classes that were hosted at the garden. Thursday October 8th
Hoots & Hollers: The Nature Company at Explorers Academy Preschool (Downtown Brooklyn)
Thursdays 3-4p. For kids 2-5y. Single session: $12. Season passes available for purchase. Hoots & Hollers is a program open to the community designed to be a safe, open-play space for kids to sing songs, hear stories, learn about animals, nature and each other! We know from experience how much of a relief it is to have a safe, affordable place to let kids run free or chill out – especially during yucky weather. Every Thursday afternoon at 3pm Hoots and Hollers will host The Nature Company. Educators from the Nature Company will bring animals for kids to see, touch and learn about. Featured animals include birds, snakes, turtles, rabbits and more!
Hopalong Andrew Sing-A-Long at at Cobble Hill Park
Thursday October 8th 4p. Outdoor sing-a-long $10/family. Hopalong Andrew’s sing-a-longs are geared towards all ages, singing the great folk songs, fireside ballads, and cowboy favorites of the silver screen. Think Roy Rogers meets Pete Seeger and Jesse Fuller – a 1-man band, with guitar, banjo, harmonica, and vintage Samsonite suitcase drum. He’ll get you to sing along, dance along, play along, and have an all-Americana good time. Check his Facebook page for a weather update if it looks like rain.
Kids Zumba at the Ryder Brooklyn Public Library
Thursdays 4-5p until October 29th. Free. Perfect for our younger Zumba fans! Kids 7-16 years old get the chance to be active and jam out to their favorite music. It also helps develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children’s lives by making fitness fun

Play Time at Play Kids (Prospect Lefferts Gardens)
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 1-3p. $10/child. For ages 0-3y. Open Play sessions offer a fun and affordable way to get together with other children and parents/caregivers. Children share playtime with age-appropriate toys (balls, cars, blocks, puzzles) while building connections with each other. Save money by buying a Class Pass, one free class and bring a friend.

Playgroup at Bija Kids (Clinton Hill)
Mon-Thu October 5th until May 29th 330-5p. For ages 0-3y. Drop-in – $15 first child/$7 additional child or 10 pack/10 visits $120 or $200 (family of 2 or more children pack). Packs expire 3 months of date of purchase. After a nap and lunch, but before bath and dinner, come to hang out and play with other 0-3 year olds at Bija. With parents or caregivers present, little ones explore puzzles, instruments, books, and plush toys in a warm, safe, and enriching environment. One our our dynamic teachers leads an enrichment activity each afternoon 430-5p. Expect bubbles, parachute, paint, and more! Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Bija has a changing table and child size toilets perfect for potty training! There is stroller parking but please fold up the strollers to accommodate all the families. Playgroup requires that a parent or caregiver be present within the space. Register one time only here.
Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure at The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre
Tuesday-Fridays 1030a & 12n; additional show on Wednesdays at 230p and weekends at 1p until October 31st. See website for more information. Ticket prices are: $7/children under 12, $10/all others. Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure picks up where the original Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre production leaves off; with the pair’s pet swan Samantha flying the children back to their humble home after their wild escapade in the forest. Safely back at home during the Halloween season; Hansel and Gretel experience the most vivid dreams where Central Park and the Belvedere Castle serve as the backdrop for a magical explosion of music, dance and exciting encounters with a host of lovable characters. The brother and sister team once again embark on an adventure where beautiful mermaids, adorable monsters, swashbuckling pirates, charming vampires and a fabulous witch all intertwine for one unforgettable Halloween night in New York City.
Sensory Room Family Hours at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Tuesdays & Thursdays & Saturday-Sunday 2-445p. For all ages. Free with museum admission. The Sensory Room is an inclusive space where children of all abilities can engage with their peers and explore their senses. This room provides a welcoming environment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
Play Space at LuLu’s then & now (Park Slope/Gowanus)
Daily (excluding holidays) from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. Please allow us time between 1pm and 2pm for maintenance. Rates: $12 per session (10am-1pm or 2pm to 5pm) for the first child and $6 for siblings. Or, purchase a 10-pack for $105. Admission to events at the Play Space is on first come first serve basis. Our Play Space is a beautiful room filled with innovative, stimulating, modern toys and a well curated library for your tot to explore, imagine and create with.
