AltSchool believes every child should have access to an exceptional, personalized education that enables him or her to be happy and successful in an ever-changing world. Inspired by Montessori and Reggio approaches, AltSchool educators engage each child’s passions, skills, and learning styles to create personalized learning experiences that foster both academic and social-emotional growth.
- Small, micro-school environments: With teaching teams in each classroom, the small size of each micro-school allows teachers to focus on each student. Each NY school has capacity for approximately 60-80 students.
- Mixed-age classrooms: Grouping students within 2-year age bands allows educators to personalize individual learning trajectories for each child.
- Real-world, project-based learning: Interdisciplinary, hands-on learning engages students’ real-world passions, and ties together academics, theory, and practice through the project itself.
- Social-emotional learning (SEL): In addition to rigorous academic goals, each student continually works on his/her own SEL goals, from growth mindset to valuing others.
- Robust community & outdoor education: Through frequent field trips, learning extends beyond the classroom walls, helping foster communal- and global-minded students.
