Happy November!  The weather is looking great this week for another fun week of events.

Monday November 2nd

Workshop: Paper Flowers at the Day of the Dead Festival at East Yard of St. Mark’s in-the-Bowery
Monday Novembere 2nd at 2p.  Free.  Take part in craft workshops and learn about the traditions surrounding Day of the Dead.  There is also a Marketplace 1-6p with several vendors will have traditional crafts related to the holiday including papel picado and food for sale.

Movies @ the Library: HOME at the Flatlands Brooklyn Public Library
Monday November 2nd 330-5p.  Free.  Oh, a lovable misfit from another planet meets a girl named Tip. The two unlikely friends embark on the greatest journey of all time…the journey HOME.

Community Dance Class with Ronald K. Brown/Evidence, A Dance Company at BRIC House (Fort Greene)
Monday November 2nd 630-8p.  Free.  All ages and skill levels are welcome to join us for a series of Community Dance Classes taught by Ronald K. Brown and members of his company, Evidence, A Dance Company.  Evidence, A Dance Company blends traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word providing a unique view of human struggles, tragedies, and triumphs. These Community Classes, accessible for all ages and skill levels, are rooted in the Company’s fusion aesthetic and are the perfect alternative to another boring day at the gym. Come discover the joy of dance! No previous experience necessary.

Tuesday November 3rd

Cool School Holidays at Staten Island Children’s Museum
Tuesday November 3rd 10a-6p.  FREE!  Free admission sponsored by Mid-Island Rotary.  On Tuesday, November 3, 2015, enjoy a very special presentation, “Let’s Chat About Economics.” This wonderful book, written for children and parents, teaches young children about making choices, differentiating between “needs” and “wants,” and the value of money.  Author, Michelle Balconi will lead the presentation, and will have signed copies of her critically acclaimed book, “Let’s Chat Avout Economics” available for purchase at the steeply discounted price of  $10!  Presentation begins at 12 noon in Portia’s Playhouse.

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Louie Miranda at the Central Brooklyn Public Library
Tuesday November 3rd 11a-12n.  Free.  Location: Dweck Center.  Louie Miranda has been dazzling the hearts of children, parents & teachers everywhere he goes. He is unique, original & loved by an ever growing population across the country! Louie is a veteran musician and educator with extensive knowledge as a soloist and freelance artist. He has played with numerous ensembles performing music in a wide variety of styles.

Election Day in Prospect Park
Tuesday November 3rd 12n-3p.  Free.  Join the Prospect Park Alliance for educational programming on Election Day.  Nature Exploration -join the Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.  Bird Nerds Game Hour, 1–2 pm: Test your knowledge of birds in this fun, mildly competitive hour of puzzles, Bingo, card games, and more!  Nature on the Go!, 2–3 pm: An Alliance naturalist will lead children and families to areas near the Audubon Center, where you can learn about the nature that is all around us and participate in a Citizen Science project.  Animal Encounter, 3–3:30 pm: Want to watch the snake gobble up a mouse? Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection and even assist in an actual feeding.  Discovery Pack, 12–3 pm: The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.  Also Race Around the Farm Yard, 1–3 pm at Lefferts Historic House, $3 suggested donation.  Get out and get moving in the Lefferts yard! The whole family can participate in potato sack races, spoon races, stilts, and other old fashioned games.

Wednesday November 4th

KidVenturesNYC Jump and Jive in South Park Slope/Greenwood Heights
Wednesdays 930-1015a.  Cost: $10 p/family p/class. Call for exact location. RSVP: Eve: 718-473-6872 or kidventuresnyc@gmail.com.  Jump and Jive is a creative movement class for children ages 11-18 months and their caregivers. Each week Miss Eve, a NYS licensed teacher with a Master Degree in Early Childhood and Special Education, leads the children through a 45 minute session of animated movement activities that introduce early childhood educational concepts.

Sunset Park Library Playdate
Wednesday November 4th 1030a-1130a.  Free.  Stop by the Sunset Park Library for a Playdate and enjoy fun games and activities that delight young children and encourage literacy. For babies and toddlers 0 to 3 years and their parents and caregivers.

White at New 42nd Street Studios
Wednesday November 4th 1p and various times until November 22nd.  See website for more information.  All tickets $20. For ages 2-5y.  Performance is 40 minutes with no intermission.  After a sold-out run in 2011, Cotton and Wrinkle are back! As the careful custodians of a colorless world, these beanie-wearing buddies work hard to hide every hint of hue. When pops of color suddenly appear, their orderly lives are thrown into a fantastic frenzy! Created with wit and whimsy by Andy Manley and designed with chromatic brilliance by Shona Reppe, this vivid work of modern theater for the very young will amaze and delight. The only show for the very young to be nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, WHITE is wondrous and bright!

Thursday November 5th

Canstruction:  23rd Annual NYC Competition at Brookfield Place (Battery Park)
Thursday Nov 5th 10a-6p and ongoing until Monday November 16th.  Free.  Location: 250 Vesey Street.  Canstruction® is an extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world. Teams of architects, engineers, contractors, and the students they mentor compete to build large-scale structures made entirely from full cans of food. The imaginative sculptures are then on view to the public until they are dismantled and donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Admission is free, but visitors are asked to bring a can of high quality food to the exhibition’s collection station.

Mad Science of New York: All About Animals at the Brooklyn Public Library (Greenpoint)
Thursday November 5th 330-430p.  Free.  Space is limited to 15 participants. Please see the Information Desk for a ticket before the program.  Join us for a special program with Mad Science of New York!  Feathers, fins, fur and more! Explore the animal kingdom and learn about the habitats, anatomy and life cycles of your favorite creatures. Make your own animal track to take home, experiment with camouflage and explore the amazing — and sometimes strange — sounds that animals make.

Art That Blinks, Buzzes, and Breathes with littleBits and Children’s Museum of the Arts
Thursdays until November 19th 4-6p.  Cost for the workshop is $25/participant to be paid prior.  Purchase tickets here.  There will be an additional cost per bit you choose to be paid after the workshop.  Interactive art combines creative materials and technology to make a piece come alive!  In this after school workshop, your child will get inspired by an interactive artist from Children’s Museum of the Arts and learn circuitry alongside a littleBits Invention Advisor.  They will take these learnings to create interactive art of their own using littleBits buzzers, LEDs, and sensors.

Play Time at Play Kids (Prospect Lefferts Gardens)
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 1-3p.  $10/child.  For ages 0-3y.  Open Play sessions offer a fun and affordable way to get together with other children and parents/caregivers. Children share playtime with age-appropriate toys (balls, cars, blocks, puzzles) while building connections with each other. Save money by buying a Class Pass, one free class and bring a friend.

WEE Arts Drop-in Session at the Children’s Museum of the Arts (South Village)
Monday-Friday: 1045a-12p & Wednesdays 145-3p, $25 per family ($20 for members).  Want to stay longer? General admission is just $6 per person after drop-in.  Music time! Story time! Art time! Join CMA’s WEE teaching artists for an art-filled drop-in session before we open our doors to the public. Parent and/or caregivers are required to join and we encourage family collaboration throughout the class. No sign up required.

Kids’ Discovery Stations at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Crown Heights)
Tuesday-Friday 1015a-1230p  until November 6th.  Free with Garden admission (Garden admission free on Tuesdays).  This docent-led, drop-in program is for families with children of all ages as well as camp groups. Get your hands dirty at kids’ Discovery stations throughout the Garden. Investigate a mystery plant, hold a water plant and learn how it floats, or go on a pollinator hunt in the meadow! All programs are outdoors and canceled in inclement weather; for updates, call 718-623-7200, ext. 7801.

Playgroup at Bija Kids (Clinton Hill)
Monday-Thursday 330-5p until May 29, 2016.  For ages 0-3y.  Drop-in – $15 first child/$7 additional child or 10 pack/10 visits $120 or $200 (family of 2 or more children pack).  Packs expire 3 months of date of purchase.  After a nap and lunch, but before bath and dinner, come to hang out and play with other 0-3 year olds at Bija​. With parents or caregivers present, little ones explore puzzles, instruments, books, and plush toys in a warm, safe, and enriching environment. One our our dynamic teachers leads an enrichment activity each afternoon 430-5p. Expect bubbles, parachute, paint, and more!  Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis.  Bija has a changing table and child size toilets perfect for potty training!  There is stroller parking but please fold up the strollers to accommodate all the families.  Playgroup requires that a parent or caregiver be present within the space.  Register one time only here.

Sensory Room Family Hours at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Tuesdays & Thursdays & Saturday-Sunday 2-445p.  For all ages. Free with museum admission.  The Sensory Room is an inclusive space where children of all abilities can engage with their peers and explore their senses. This room provides a welcoming environment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Play Space at LuLu’s then & now (Park Slope/Gowanus)
Daily (excluding holidays) from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm.  Please allow us time between 1pm and 2pm for maintenance.  Rates: $12 per session (10am-1pm or 2pm to 5pm) for the first child and $6 for siblings. Or, purchase a 10-pack for $105.  Admission to events at the Play Space is on first come first serve basis.  Our Play Space is a beautiful room filled with innovative, stimulating, modern toys and a well curated library for your tot to explore, imagine and create with.  Please review the rules here before coming to the Play Space.
