Dear Friends,
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I’m writing to ask for your help. Eight years ago, we started a soup kitchen and a food pantry because people kept coming to our church asking for food. We thought we could feed twenty to thirty people, but as word got out that we served good food and actually cared about helping the folks who came to us, well…people kept coming, and they continue to keep coming.
We serve a hot meal every Wednesday, and this week will be no different. Our Thanksgiving feast will be delicious, and there will hopefully be around a hundred people there. In previous years, our food pantry has given out 400-500 bags of food on the day before Thanksgiving.
It’s a big operation, but it’s powered on kindness and hope provided by people like you. Everyone gives a little, and sure enough – we’re able to make it work. People are fed, community is created, and people leave a little better off than when they came. Just this weekend, a man stopped by to say that seven years ago, we gave him a plate of food and helped him get into a recovery program. He’s been clean ever since, and wanted to let us know that we made a difference in his life. He’s off the streets, works a job and wanted to make a donation to pass on a little bit of what he received to someone else.
This Thanksgiving, would you please help us continue to do this life-changing work? You can donate online at: http://bit.ly/1X9RzCl.
Thank you for being a friend to me and to the people who we feed every week. It really makes a difference.
All the best,
Ann
