Now that we are back on a regular routine there has been time to fill up the calendar with all the exciting weekday events happening this winter in Brooklyn & NYC.
This week there are free trials of Taste of Tinkergarten in Owl’s Head Park & Shore Road Park, also Free Demo Week: Winter Tot Classes at Juguemos a Cantar South Slope and Free Trial Week with Music Together of Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill/Bed Stuy at various locations. In addition to that you can take the kids to Stomp, Clap, & Sing with Monkey Monkey Music at the Central Brooklyn Public Library, Cumbe Dance: Uhuru with Olatunji Ojore at Brooklyn Ballet, a Trial Baby DJ School at Tykes in the Heights, Girls Are Superheroes! at Monkey Do! Monday January 11th
Spanish Story-Time at Play Kids (Prospect Lefferts Gardens)
Mondays 1030-115a. $8/child. Drop-In Class, No Registration. For ages: 20 months – 3 years. Introduce your child to basic Spanish through stories, games and songs. Adults are encouraged to gently guide their child’s participation and have fun along with their child.
Cumbe Dance: Uhuru with Olatunji Ojore (Free and Creative Movement) at Brooklyn Ballet (Downtown Brooklyn/Boerum Hill)
Mondays 1030-1115a for ages 1-2y. Drop in $17 or register for the semester for $294. Semester starts January 11th – June 13th with no classes Jan 18, Feb. 15, & May 30. Make-up week: June 20-24. This is a lively class for toddlers who are comfortable on their feet, featuring games, interactive stories, and dance, drum, and song sequences. Parent/guardian participation is required. Uhuru (the Kiswahili word for “freedom”) is a series of creative movement classes featuring a combination of song, dance, and play – designed to ignite children’s creative voices and nurture their freedom of expression. Olatunji is proud to continue Jamie Philbert’s signature pedagogy and help build a foundation for a life-long creative practice. There is also a Friday class 1030-1115a for 2-4y. Gary The Great! at the Walt Whitman Brooklyn Public Library (Downtown Brooklyn/Fort Greene)
Monday January 11th 330-430p. Free. Magician Gary the Great presents his high-energy blast of magic, comedy, and juggling. The hilarious tour through the world of magic gets everyone involved!

Tuesday January 12th
Trial Baby DJ School at Tykes in the Heights (Prospect Heights)
Tuesday January 12th 1030-1115a. For ages 2m-5y. $30/child includes Baby DJ Album. We have partnered with the awesome toy store Tykes in the Heights to bring you Baby DJ School Tuesday mornings in Prospect Heights. We are offering a no-commitment trial class this Tuesday. If you love it, you can sign up for the rest of the semester and the tuition will be prorated. Baby DJ School is an interactive sing-along for babies and toddlers that makes music education a dance party!
Stomp, Clap, & Sing with Monkey Monkey Music at the Central Brooklyn Public Library
Tuesday January 12th 11a-12n. Free. Location: Dweck Center. Get ready to play air guitar, jump high, go innie and outie, count the odds, pop the bubbles, stroll in the garden and do the “macaroni” with Monkey Monkey Music.
Taste of Tinkergarten in Owl’s Head Park (Bay Ridge)
Tuesday January 12th 11a-1215p. Free. Come join us for a free taste of Tinkergarten, a new outdoor play class. You’ll get to see, first hand, what a class feels like and how we inspire authentic, play-based learning for children (and a great time for all)! This free class is designed for children 18 months through five years old and a treasured adult. There is also a free Taste of Tinkergarten on Thursday January 14th in Shore Road Park at 11a. Little Scientists: Bugs, Bugs, Bugs! at the Dyker Brooklyn Public Library
Wednesday January 13th 11a-12n & 12n-1p. Free. Be a BUG Scientist! Plus, take some foam insects home with you. This STEM activity is appropriate for toddlers and preschoolers.
Hoots & Hollers: The Nature Company at Explorers Academy Preschool (Downtown Brooklyn)
Wednesday January 13th 3-4p and every other Wednesday. For kids 2-5y. Single session: $12. Season passes available for purchase. Hoots & Hollers is a program open to the community designed to be a safe, open-play space for kids to sing songs, hear stories, learn about animals, nature and each other! We know from experience how much of a relief it is to have a safe, affordable place to let kids run free or chill out – especially during yucky weather. Every Wednesday afternoon at 3pm Hoots and Hollers will host The Nature Company. Educators from the Nature Company will bring animals for kids to see, touch and learn about. Featured animals include birds, snakes, turtles, rabbits and more! Hoots & Hollers is appropriate for babies and toddlers up to age 5 and requires the attendance of a parent or caregiver. Food is not allowed on the premises so please, kindly enjoy your delicious snacks before or after these sessions.
Girls Are Superheroes! at Monkey Do! Yoga (Gowanus)
Wednesdays 430-515p. Drop in $20. Class packs also available. For girls seven and up. Superheroes are for everyone and so is yoga! This class for girls encourages independence, focus, inner strength and courage to take flight in class, and outside in the world. Accessing the core to strengthen the body, students will practice the art of flying on the mat, going upside down and even sideways to build strength and focus outward. A unique mix of games, books, breath work and mindfulness, girls will discover that a superheroes’ strength comes from within.

Thursdays 2p-6p for all ages. Come join us for our FREE afternoon hours at the Museum, EVERY Thursday of the month! Holiday Train Show at The New York Botanical Garden (Bronx)

14th Annual Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Terminal (Midtown East)
Ongoing until February 21st. M–F: 8a–8p, Saturday and Sunday: 10a–6p. Free. Location: NY Transit Museum Gallery Annex and Store Shuttle Passage. Presented annually by the New York Transit Museum, this popular model railroad exhibition features Metro-North, New York Central, and subway trains departing from a miniature Grand Central Terminal on a 34’-long, two-level “O” gauge layout. The Museum’s store and booth at the Holiday Fair also offer great gifts for your holiday shopping. Transit gifts are available online at www.nytransitmuseumstore.com.
Open Play at Curiosity on Court (Cobble Hill)
Monday-Friday 10a-6p & Saturday-Sunday 9a-12n. Open Play drop-in: $25 per child, $20 for siblings. Welcome to Curiosity on Court, a world of energy busting excitement! Our custom designed play structures and exhibits were created to raise the curiosity and fuel the imagination of kids 1–10 yrs old. Whether they’re conquering our climbing wall, taking a ride on the subway, making connections on the magnetic wall or finding their route through our multi-level play structure, there’s hours of fun for everyone. Open Play & Activities at Recess (DUMBO)
Monday-Thursday 9a-6p, Friday 9a-5p and Saturday and Sunday 9a–1130a*. Drop in $30 first child, $20 per additional child. Memberships/play packs also available for purchase. Recess is now offering weekly activities led by Recess Team Members! Recess STORY-TIME is every Monday morning at 10:15 am for children 0-24 months, where we will expand imagination and curiosity through a variety of books. Recess FIT is exercise time every Wednesday at 11:00am for 0-3 year olds, where we will build gross and fine motor skills to complement daily play. Recess CRAFT is every Thursday at 2:00pm for 0-3 year olds, where we will explore new ways to express creativity. Weekly activities are free to members and included with a purchase of open play. Please join us for STORY-TIME, FIT and CRAFT! Please note that you must sign a waiver in order to play at Recess. *Weekend afternoons are reserved for birthday parties.
Play Time at Play Kids (Prospect Lefferts Gardens)
Monday & Fridays 1-3p and Wednesday1030a-1230p. $10/child. For ages 0-3y. Open Play sessions offer a fun and affordable way to get together with other children and parents/caregivers. Children share playtime with age-appropriate toys (balls, cars, blocks, puzzles) while building connections with each other. Save money by buying a Class Pass, one free class and bring a friend.
WEE Arts Drop-in Session at the Children’s Museum of the Arts (South Village)
Monday-Friday: 1045a-12p & Wednesdays 145-3p, $25 per family ($20 for members). Want to stay longer? General admission is just $6 per person after drop-in. Music time! Story time! Art time! Join CMA’s WEE teaching artists for an art-filled drop-in session before we open our doors to the public. Parent and/or caregivers are required to join and we encourage family collaboration throughout the class. No sign up required.
Sensory Room Family Hours at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Tuesdays & Thursdays & Saturday-Sunday 2-445p. For all ages. Free with museum admission. The Sensory Room is an inclusive space where children of all abilities can engage with their peers and explore their senses. This room provides a welcoming environment for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
Play Space at LuLu’s then & now (Park Slope/Gowanus)
Daily (excluding holidays) 10a-5p. Rates: $12 per visit for the first child and $6 for siblings. Or, Consider purchasing a 5-pack of Play Space Tokens for $50 or 10-pack for $105.. Admission to events at the Play Space is on first come first serve basis. Our Play Space is a beautiful room filled with innovative, stimulating, modern toys and a well curated library for your tot to explore, imagine and create with.
