You may be a sleepless, sort of still-awkward new mom, or the seasoned mom of a terrifically sassy big kid already. No matter what, you want a little sense of romance and wonder added to your personal look- but, with what time? A haircut is a real commitment, and you may not want one.
In my case, a lot of my hair fell out when my son was about 6-7 months old. It was a real blow to my sense of self, which was already compromised with constant breastfeeding and a post-pregnancy body. Slowly, it’s coming back (my hair and old body)- but, in the meantime, I’m here to really recommend braids- for all of us!
Short, medium, and long hair all look gorgeous with a braid accent, and as explained to me by the very talented Camille Crosdale at The Owl and The Pussycat Salon in Fort Greene, braids can last for days.
In the days that you have your braid, you can add some flowers, or plant life sprigs. You will watch your braids unfold into a tossled, sexy, fairy-like wonder, and feel reinvented a few times throughout the day. It’s so fun! A typical braiding job will cost you approximately anywhere from $40-$60. There are tons of styles you can make up, but some standards are: French braid, the Waterfall, the Fishtail, and the Dutch. Here are some inspirational pics:
Here’s what Camille did with my hair (and, may I add that over the days afterward, the whole style turned more loose and awesome):
Here are three Brooklyn salons that I recommend personally for having a good, sturdy braiding job done at:
