Brooklyn Public Library and the NYC Department of Transportation will host a free bike helmet fitting at Central Library on Thursday afternoon, encouraging a safe ride for the hundreds of riders who will take to the streets on Saturday for the Library’s annual Bike the Branches event, an all-day bike extravaganza through BPL’s 60 branch system and the city’s capstone Bike Month event.
Free helmets will be available on Thursday as supplies last, and we expect plenty of folks there to interview about their prep for the bike season or their ‘bike the branches’ plans!
The DOT will also debut its new ‘vision zero’ helmets at a press conference earlier in the day.

Free helmets for riders of all ages will be available while supplies last, including the Department of Transportation’s new Vision Zero helmets, which the department will debut at a press conference at Central Library earlier in the day, at 10 am.
There is still time to register for Bike the Branches on May 7 and support Brooklyn Public Library. Adult participation is $20; young people 16-and-under and seniors 65-and-up can register for $10; and families (which can include up to 2 adults and 2 children) can sign up for $40. Teams of up to 10 people can join for $150.
One of the borough’s largest biking events, Bike the Branches is a key component of the Library’s Support the Branches spring fundraising campaign, which raises urgently needed dollars for BPL’s programs and services. The event drew nearly 1,000 riders and participants last year.
