5 Gifts For the Outdoorsy Mama in Your Life

Sarah Kurliand, A Child Grows’ writer and co-founder of The Nature School of Philadelphia, shares some super cool Mother’s Day gift ideas for all those nature-loving mamas.

If you’re like me, you don’t want flowers or jewelry for Mother’s Day, you’d prefer to spend the day (and every day) amongst the wildflowers in the forest, trekking up hills and cooling off in waterfalls.

So, what do you get the outdoorsy Mama in your life? I have come up with a list of 5 things that we would love:

  1. The Deuter Nomi Pack-Kids’ from REI is the perfect backpack for your hikes alone and with the family. Yes, it is technically for kids, however it comfortably fits a change of clothes, diapers, snacks and two water bottles and it’s only $36.73!
  2. Grab yourself a Swell water bottle and never worry about mold or drinking warm water ever again. It keeps water cold for 24 hours and warm things warm for 12 hours – and it’s nearly indestructible as we have dropped it, kicked it and thrown it on the ground and it’s still good to go!
  3. When we are out in the woods – we constantly come across new and exciting things that we don’t know the names of. Field guides are the perfect solution for plants, mushrooms, birds and animals in your area. My current favorite thing to do it forage for edible plants right here in Philadelphia using this Guide.
  4. There’s nothing like a great book to cozy up to and get your in the mood for some adventure. I highly receommend any of the following:
    1. Wild by Cheryl Strayed
    2. A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
    3. Women Who Run With the Wolves
  1. The Prana Halle Pant is great for all weather and stands the test of time and functionality. We are really hard on our things in our family, so when I tell you something is good quality, I really mean it!
