Goats Come to Prospect Park!

This week, Prospect Park has welcomed a herd of eight noble, hungry goats into the northeast corner of the park, to restore the areas badly damaged by storms. This particular area has lost more than fifty trees, which allowed tons of invasive plants to reign supreme and cause erosion. The steep areas where the proliferation has occurred are easy for goats to access, while for human staff it’s a different story.

Meet the goats on the 22nd at Fun on the Farm.

The goats hail from Rhinebeck’s Green Goats, which helps with land restoration. “Woodland restoration has always been an important focus for the Alliance,” said Sue Donoghue, Prospect Park Alliance President. “These goats will provide an environmentally friendly approach to our larger efforts, and help us make the Park more resilient to future storms.”
