Now that school is in full-swing and the air is getting crisper, we have festivities coming one after the other in NYC! City Parks Foundation is pleased to announce the return of Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure, a holiday themed show inspired by the adventures of the classic fairytale duo, to the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre. Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure picks up where the original Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre production leaves off; with the siblings’ pet swan Samantha flying the children back to their humble home after their wild escapade in the forest.
Safely back at home during the Halloween season, Hansel and Gretel experience the most vivid dreams where Central Park and the Belvedere Castle serve as the backdrop for a magical explosion of music, dance and exciting encounters with a host of lovable characters. The brother and sister team once again embark on an adventure where beautiful mermaids, adorable monsters, swashbuckling pirates, charming vampires and a fabulous witch all intertwine for one unforgettable Halloween night in New York City.
“Since its debut in 2012, Hansel & Gretel’s Halloween Adventure has become a fall favorite at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre,” said Swedish Cottage Artistic Director, Bruce Cannon. “This year, we’ve added some new music and twists to the storyline, that we think adults and children alike will enjoy!”

About the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre
The enchanting Swedish architecture and craftsmanship of the Swedish Cottage which was suggestive of a model schoolhouse caught the eye of Central Park creator Fredrick Law Olmsted, who brought it to Central Park in 1877. A traveling marionette company was founded in 1939 and in 1947 the Swedish Cottage became home to the company. In 1973, a permanent theater was constructed inside the Swedish Cottage, designed for marionette performances. Since then, hundreds of thousands of children and families from around the world have enjoyed its original productions. Under the direction of City Parks Foundation, the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre and CityParks PuppetMobile continues to thrill audiences from around the world, entertaining upwards of 65,000 people each year.
