Local Brooklyn Children’s Author Presents DORY FANTASMAGORY HEAD IN THE CLOUDS

Abby Hanlon

Local Brooklyn Children’s author Abby Hanlon’s chapter book series (ages 6-8) gains a new installment this month with DORY FANTASMAGORY HEAD IN THE CLOUDS.

Abby is a former teacher who stopped teaching to stay at home with twins, and then rediscovered her love of art.  She says (from Brightly), “I got to spend a lot of time poring over illustrations in picture books and obsessing over favorite books. I tried to figure out different illustrators’ processes, sometimes even by trying to copy them. Through this study, I came up with my own style and process.”

Abby believes art is important for all kids. “I think every kid needs a sketch book. It’s a cheap hobby, you can take it basically everywhere and it gives you independence at any age.”

This is the 4th book in the series that started with Dory Fantasmagory, as book that begins…”My name is Dory, but everyone calls me Rascal. This is my family. I am the little kid” The voice is spot on and continues through the series. The books address what Kirkus Reviews calls “real-life 6-year-old problems” with a great sense of childish humor.

Abby Hanlon will have her launch for the new book at Books Are Magic in Brooklyn on Sunday March 11 at 1:00 pm.
