The YMCA offers a variety of popular swimming classes for infants, toddlers, and kids (6 months and up) as well as adults at all levels. You do not need to be a member, but sign up early because classes do fill up:

About: Fully trained instructors teach kids from infants to toddlers to young children the fundamentals
of swimming in a safe and comfortable water environment. They offer group classes for infants (4-17 months), toddlers (18 months-4 years old), youth (4-9 years old), semi-private and private classes for kids and adults. They also do prenatal swimming classes.

About: Their Athletic Center is open to the community for recreational use during early mornings, evenings, and weekends (September through July). They offer a variety of membership options in addition to group classes for adults and children. About: This is a specialty sports program for children, teens and adults. They have a swimming program, sports camp and after school program that incorporates a lot of sports. Classes for infants, toddler and youth (6 months-14 years old) are held in the pool at John Jay High School on Saturdays and Sundays and also in Erasmus Hall (911 Flatbush) on Sundays. They have weekday advanced swimming classes at International High School in Prospect Heights. Anyone is welcome to come to Family Swim for $5 per person per 50 minute session.

About: The parent-child aquatic program (ages 2-5 years) is intended to build a comfort level in the water and learn the basic elements for future success in swimming.
