Making sure your kids are exposed to learning in the STEM fields is a great way to prepare them for future success. One of the best ways is with iDTech. iDTech is the premier technology camp, offering advanced STEM education on university campuses worldwide since 1999. They have coding, game development, robotics, and design programs starting for kids as young as 7 and some of their more than over 300,000 alumni have gone on to work at Google, Apple, or Facebook. No other camp has been trusted by the nation’s top universities—Columbia , NYU, MIT, Princeton, Harvard and others—for nearly 20 years.
So why is STEM so important? STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math, and while each year more and more jobs are opening up in these fields, the United States seems to keep falling behind other countries in preparing for the future in these innovative disciplines. The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) measures reading ability, math, science literacy and more amongst 15-year-olds in many countries every three years, and in 2015 the U.S. only came in 38th out of 71 countries in math and 24th in science. Among developed countries it’s even closer to the bottom. In addition, the National Assessment of Educational Progress of the US Education Department, regularly measures aptitude in the country’s schools, and in 2015, it found that the average math scores for 4th and 8th graders had fallen for the first time since 1990.
And yet STEM employment opportunities have a much higher rate of growth than non-STEM employment, with the STEM commanding a whopping 24.4 percent versus just 4 percent for non-STEM. And those in STEM fields are likely to have higher wages, earning an average of 29 percent more. Even people who do not choose to go into a STEM field, but have a STEM education, are likely to receive a higher wage, as those with STEM degrees make 12 percent more than those who do not when all other factors, including field of employment are the same.
That’s why choosing a STEM camp this summer is one of the best gifts you can give your child. It will help them discover all of the fun they can have while learning some of the most valuable skills for the future. Also, it’s FUN. iDTech students love making games, exploring virtual reality, building robots, and even building their own laptops.
New York City Campuses include: NYU, Columbia, NYIT, The Town School, Marymount Manhattan College, Queens College and Sarah Lawrence College.
