“GOOD NIGHT, SLEEP TIGHT: The Sleep Lady’s Gentle Guide to Helping Your Child Go to Sleep, Stay Asleep and Wake Up Happy” is a long title for good size book that is packed with case studies and real world application of the author, Kim West’s (aka the Sleep Lady®) methods.
What I like about this book was the Sleep Lady’s non-judgment about sleep arrangements and each family’s personal decisions. They are all different. She helpfully separates chapters for different age groups and their unique problems and development place. Thankfully, she applies the same techniques, just customized, for all sorts of situations, making it easy to take away and remember key points. The book also includes a robust list of resources for further research.

Similarly, Paige Wolf’s Spit That Out! The Overly Informed Parent’s Guide to Raising Healthy Kids in the Age of Environmental Guilt sets out to put your mind at ease, that is if you are already over informed about environmental hazards and the inevitable environmental end of the world. For those of us who have managed to use our busy schedules to bury this anxiety, it might just bring it back up. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes we all need reminders that cheap plastic toys are actually dangerous (and we should secretly dispose of these items when given as gifts) and recycling is not just a part of our routine, but actually still really important. In a more horrifying moment, she reveals why you should never melt crayons.
From anxiety pills while breastfeeding to the cloth diaper debate to at home remedies, Paige tackles a lot in this compact books. She also provides lots of real mom quotes, from moms famous and not, that remind us that we are not alone in our confusion, dread, and necessary compromises.
