NIH Says Inducing Labor at 39 Weeks May Reduce Your C-Section Risk

pregnancy. c-section

The National Institutes of Health issued a press release pulling from a recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Earlier than 39 weeks is too risky, but inducing at 39 weeks is apparently less risky than waiting. It also reduces the risk of high blood pressure and other complications according to this one study of 6,000 pregnant women at 41 hospitals.

The press release does not recommend a specific method for inducing labor and the study materials did not list the methods used. Anything that would prevent the difficult c-section recovery may be worth it, but this is just one study. Obviously talk to your doctor, this isn’t medical advice, it’s only a study outcome.
