_______
As the wife of a teacher, I have seen a lot of interesting, terrible, and fantastic teacher gifts. Here are some DOs and DON’Ts.
DO have you kids make cards. This is sweet and personal in just the right way. They may not keep them forever, but they will make their day.
DO give gift cards. These are always good.
DO give something useable or something you would want yourself.
DON’T re-gift personal or odd gifts that are obviously from your great aunt.
DON’T give teacher or subject themed gifts. It may seem cute or thoughtful, but it may just go into a box full of the same thing under the bed. For example, no apple shaped pencil sharpeners.
DON’T give bad or unknown wine. Inexpensive wine is fine, but only if it is one you know and appreciate.
DON’T give candy, chocolate, or cookies unless they are homemade or you know the teacher likes a certain kind.
Some Teacher Gift Ideas
If you don’t want to go with a boring old gift card, here are a few more specific idea which everyone will appreciate. Some of these ideas may include affiliate links.
The Moleskin notebook. Everyone loves a good notebook, especially a teacher. Honestly, I would never not be happy to get a notebook, even if I had twenty blank ones at home already. And less fancy is actually better because you don’t feel the need to wait for the right moment to write on those beautiful blank pages.
Warm socks are also good for both men and women. Pay attention to what kind of socks they wear…some teachers may like silly, colorful socks and others plain socks. These are especially good for pre-school teachers and other teachers who work in a shoe-free zone.
All purpose creams, balms, and soaps are good as longs as they are not too smelly. Some people have strong scent preferences. Those super smelling soaps you want to re-gift, don’t. Only give something you would use yourself.
A nice olive oil or truffle oil is also a good idea.
