TOAST, My New Favorite Cookbook, Really

I may have said this before, but I am not a big cooker. I hardly know how to make scrambled eggs. Still, I thought a cookbook about Toast may be a bit unnecessary. After all, I do know that you can put anything on bread, and I know how to use a toaster.

I was wrong. It turns out, I love TOAST.  (*Amazon affiliate link, but I recommend you buy it from your local store.)

There are not only many new (and also mostly fancy) ideas for things to put on bread in this book–there are also several ways to make the actual toast itself. The book is separated into Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer sections, but that part is a bit arbitrary. The recipes are excellent for any time. Warning though: the author is not shy about sugar, butter, or anything really. This toast is delicious, but not necessarily healthful.   She has a recipe for the best cinnamon toast ever that makes me feel sugar shock just reading it.

There are no recipes for French toast in TOAST, but there is a recipe for Almond-Orange Flour Toast which is similar. I didn’t make it because I didn’t have oranges for zesting, but it inspired me to add ground hazelnuts to my French toast. It turned out to be a brilliant idea.
